Yes, but I did run tournaments for 2 years so that helps... kind of. It still took way too much time to figure out.

Which format are we talking about the new one or the old one?
Old one (The Open Seasons) - Yes
New one (The Closed Seasons) - Kinda / not quite

I believe the new one is a mix of Open/Closed. 32 entrants from previous seasons battle for 32 spots and any amount of entrants from outside of Code S/A battle for 32 spots, together composing a Ro64. Though I've only seen the format explained once or twice, in Korean on GOMTV so I may very well be wrong. ^^

Yeah, I heard the same thing but I barely know any details.

Oh, and I think it's considered to be Closed because it's only available to people who have been successful in previous GSLs.

I have a general idea, but I'm fuzzy on some of the details. I put Don't Care, though, since it doesn't really matter that much to me.

For the people finding it hard to understand, I think it's the kind of system that will make much more sense once it's implemented.

Same, I've half heartedly tried to understand it, didn't manage and decided it really isn't important. Epic games and hopefully learning a thing or two keeps me watching.

Ya, I'm way into the GSL, so I made sure I understood everything, but some aspects are not easy to understand at first glance (like the Code S group stage), so more casual viewers might not get everything until they actually see how it works in the tournament.

Two group stages into single elimination with a set of regulation/promotion matches at the end of the season for placement in the next tournament which are seeded based on rank in the first group stage? What's not to understand?

I would like to vote on the "BW poll pls maybe?". But there is no such option. So i voted 'Don't care'. There could be a SC2 and a BW poll at the same time though. And everyone would be happy! Merry Christmas, and a happy New Year!!!

Don't care. I like progaming obviously (that and strategytalk are like, the two major reasons to come here to TL, aren't they?), but not THAT much. As long as I get to see great games, I'm happy as can be!

I can understand people don't want to spend time reading/understanding every little bit of the format, but it annoys me that there is such a high prevalence of "omg cannot fathom".

At least I hope people can understand the basic idea:
Code S plays to win the Code S tournament, or at least avoid going down to Code A
Code A plays to try to get into Code S, or at least avoid losing code A.
Everyone else plays to try to get into Code A

People get relegated and promoted.
They do so via a series of playoff matches.

What's so hard to understand? Are TL people really that dumb? Or possibly American (since Americans aren't used to the idea of promotion and relegation, the rest of the world uses such systems in their sports leagues, but the US (and Canada) seem to have a system whereby teams are set forever and while you can create new teams, there is no reward at the lower levels for being successful other than that success).
HOLY CHECK!

Disappointing poll, i thought more of TL'ers. It really wasn't that hard to understand. Sure maybe i didn't have 100 percent comprehension after the first read (possibly due to reading too fast from sheer excitement) but after the second i knew exactly how the system worked.

my same opnion, too bad that 95% of the games in star2 are not very good, even games people recommend sometimes are still not very entertainment (at least compared to BW)

but i hope this new GSL changes my mind

Even tho is kinda advanced compared to other league systems. I think its quite comprehensive when you take a little time and read up on it. Also it seems like a VERY good system, that makes all matches matter. Looking very much forward to see it in action!

I don't recall ever trying to explain it. The only thing we did was discuss the thread from TL which originally came from GOM (before there was any additional information on it).

Here's what I understand about it:
- There will be a shitload of awesome games for us to watch

That's all I NEED to know.

I don't and I don't care, that option's missing. Artosis said it was a fair system were people like BitbybitPrime would get the fuck out, so I'm perfectly fine with not understanding as long as Artosis is right.

The TL threads definitely made it quite clear for me.

haven't had the chance to give it a closer look... I'm just looking forward to some awesome games without getting too much into details

Voted don't care. I never understood how people got into the OSL / MSLs either and I didn't really care.

I really didn't find the system confusing at all, there is the Sponsorship League/Main Event to determine ups and downs between S/A players, one league who's name keeps changing was at one time 'Ladder League' creates a ro64 between the top ladder players of each league (who are not already seeded as Code S/A), deciding new players to come and battle for Code A spots. The World Championship then determines the players who will face off in the Grand Finals/Blizzard Cup to determine the #1 player for the year. Really not that different from what we've seen in BW when you break it down. There will also probably be a team-league/pro-league style league from GOM as well.

I understood it while I was reading it. But I cannot explain it without having some visual aid to help me out.

I cant see the difficulty.

Code S: group stages -> high ranked players play an elimiation format for a big prize pool
low ranked play against high Code A players. Winners are in Code S, loosers in Code A.

Code A: Play a seperate tourney, the high ranked players can ascent into code S if they win against the low Code S players.
Upper half of Code A players stay in Code A, Lower half doesnt, they need to go through the qualifiers.

Open Qualifier: Lower spaces of Code A for the top players of this tourney.
I do not obey any norms. I redefine standard with every thought I make.

more confusing that i would like
Really don't like how its working out with the tiers. would rather have seeding from previous tournaments like osl/msl (though it sorta works like it i guess)

When people made the format pictures with arrows it was pretty clear how it works. Dunno how it can confuse so much people.

To me it seems pretty straight forward. More interesting is what the format does for movements between S, A and B. I think S will be more or less set after 3-5 seasons.

Understanding how it works isn't the hard part. I find trying to come up with reasons why the hell they would use such a travesty as system to be mind boggling difficult.

If you've looked at one of those charts and you still don't get it, you're probably not too good at understanding things anyway.

It's easy to understand otherwise.

It's also a really good system. Much more like a major league sport with a regular season leading into play-offs and a Super Bowl...

if somebody asks what happens after the group stages and what happens to winners/losers of these stages i could tell him, that pretty easy.

but if somebody would ask me how this group stage works, how the next group stage will work and how code A works... i would not be ab le to answer this.

so answer is no

I understood from the beginning, but I don't see why people whine about it being too complicated, it's not going to make the games any less exciting.

I can see how people find the system a bit complicated. This is a new kind of system that really gives the players fair chances, and gives the viewers good matching. I totally agree on this system being clearer once implemented.

I tried to find the answer for my question in the live report thread but the main points of discussion are greater infinity, Tasteless's taste and July's banelings, so this thread seems to be the right place to ask.

After the first four games were played, the table was like this:
1. oGsMC 2:0
2. oGsNaDa 1:1
3. oGsInCa 1:1
4. sanZenith 0:2

Why didn't they play the last two games? sadZenith winning against Nada and Inca winning against MC should have made the table look like this:

1. oGsInCa 2:1
2. oGsMC 2:1
3. sanZenith 1:2
4. oGsNaDa 1:2

So, we have two pairs of tied players - Inca and MC with 2:1 and sadZenith and Nada with 1:2. When two players finish with the same score, the one who won the direct match between the two goes ahead. In this scenario, this should have put Inca on top because of his direct win vs MC and sadZenith getting third place because he won against Nada.

What am I missing?
