Well, the producer for the KPGA Team League made a post about the strike on PGR21.com, I'll do a summary~ Oh, and I was wrong about the progamers requesting 5 times more money in prizes, it's more like 3~4 times more.
He starts with all the pleasantries, hello and thank you for loving SC and watching MBCGame etc etc....
The Pro Team "Managers(KPGA)" (that's exactly what he said) Request:
1: At least 70,000,000 won ($60,000) in total prize money (NOT first place, TOTAL prize money, hi rea ;p) for a 3 month League 2: A 500,000 won ($400) appearance fee each time a team plays 3: Payment for each TV rerun 4: Stopping VOD services 5: A least 2 months of break each year
MBCGame's Offer
1: 45,000,000 won ($40,000) in total prize money for a 3 month league (INCLUDING the $400 appereance fee). If you remove the appearance fees from the total prize money, it goes down to under $30,000 in total prize money (two teams a week for 12 weeks).
2: An official rest period will be granted 3: VODs and Reruns will continue to be run the way they are now, considering the rights of the viewers, and the cyclic broadcasting nature of cable television.
The KPGA could not agree with the above offer, and thus they started a strike, as of July 1st.
Considering the huge gap between the KPGA's demands and what MBCGame can offer, it looks pretty bad

I just hope they don't remove the vods

hmm - stopped watching vods a time ago - not only they are with very bad quality (hate to ruin my eyes anymore) but u do not learn anything from them ... U just have to be stuck with commenters view (and they miss a lot of stuff), and of course u do not understand anything in Korean ... Vods are nothing compared to replays (u can pause at any moment - and count players army limit - see how they macro/startegy and much more), and I really do not understand why they do not release reps. - at least people outside Korea will be able to watch and see how the progamers play ... I dont think people inside Korea will stop going to the show on live - it is just different, just like soccer match. The match is shown on TV and everyone can record it but the stadium is full - just because many people love to watch it in live ...

I agree that on the whole VODs are weaker than replays, but there are two advantages VODs have over replays.
First is only available in First Person vods. It's useful to see what a player is paying attention to, how often he sticks on a particular area, and what he devotes his time to. This is something a replay can't always tell you, and definitely can't tell you as efficiently as a FPV.
The second is that you can watch VODs from bed. (-;

I hope this turns into "The Replacements" and Korea has to fly in top 10 wgt

Lets organize "newbie strike", they should pay us some percentages for reaching their high level thanx to newbies. I want my .00003% share.

Although the announcement was made by the lead producer for the MBC Game Team League show, it's my understanding that the current demands by the KPGA, and in particular, their appeal for US $60,000, is with respect to not just the Team League, but to ALL leagues of at least 3 months in duration (ie the regular Starleagues & War3 leagues etc.).
Just in case people start getting confused again.

Comments on KPGA demands.
The Prize money is perfectly acceptable. The appearence fees should be a little lower, maybe 250 - 300 USD. The VODs shutting down is bullshit, so is the money for reruns. I guess the rest period is ok...

I think your understanding is wrong, because they have over 45,000,000 total in prizes for every league already that way ;o

The problem is SC fans are not exactly the rich part of the population, nor do they want to pay anything to watch games. So apart of advertising and cable fees, the TV compagnies don't make much money.
As one said, a way to increase income for TV is to ask for a small payement for VOD service. $10-20 for a 3 months-league service could be enough to get those $60,000. Another way is to sell their programs to TVs in other countries.

No one outside korea would wanna watch two korean boys slug it out in a boxing match! Let a alone duke it out in front of their respective pc monitors! sheesh!

they should instead sell shows to other countries of koreans eating dogs and shit. Now that's gonna sell big time!!!
