Because slam is claiming a different type of check this time around and it's possible mafia just didn't know he could do that.
I mean he already checked that people had KP and nobody really cared all that much, or maybe figured that killing active players over a guy nobody was really listening to was a better play. There's a number of things that could have happened tbh.
