Please understand people that don't want to vote VA (Xatalos, Obiwan, Marv), that we would always have this discussion "why would mafia fakeclaim knowing that they will get CC". It will always happen. The fallout of the discussion is often "too crazy to be scum" "why would VA put the spotlight on him?"
But the reasoning VA gave was silly enough to vote him. He knew batsnacks was vigi so he claimed vigi to save batsnacks. VA should know that batsnacks was a top lynch candidate. Or that batsnacks is not the player who would hide his shot and take some more crap about being scum. So VA his plan was doomed from the start.
And why would a townie be scummy on purpose? VA as a townie is most of the time a plynch somewhere in the end. He doesn't do these shiny plays as town, I don't remember it. Ask yourself how much this play helped town D2 in case batsnacks stayed silent?
Anyway. VA is not doing any intelligent scumhunting.
Everything he said points out to marv being scum. But marv not willing to vote him makes him town.
VA says Xatalos is scum even though marv harddefends Xatalos.
VA says CR is scum for "overreacting". I disagree. What CR says sounds smart. He can sound smart as scum. But he isn't scum for "overreacting".
Also. VA master of Night Kills thinks Xatalos, CR, rayn killed Palmar, Kush and HaruRH.

The reason why mafia need to make this play is because if they shoot VTs at night, they lose. We have 4 roles alive and a vested VT. That's 5 potentially confirmed town. There are 4 VTs left. The only mislynch that can happen today is on a VT because a role would simply claim. With 3 VTs left, if mafia shoot 2 of them, we mass claim and then the game ends in a town victory. So the only thing mafia can do to survive until the next day is to reliably kill a role. That's why Vayne fakeclaimed and then rescinded. If Vayne was town, there would be no point to fakeclaiming. The only outcome of fakeclaiming is that the real role will counter claim you. We're not talking about a new player here; we're talking about Vayne, who is an expert in this field, fakeclaimed many times before, and knows exactly what was going to happen.

Could you describe clearly why marv is so surely scum? I don't think the night kills should be the ultimate deciding factor on who is scum anyway.

I guess it's possible, and I was wrong about rayn too. Still I don't think we really lose anything by waiting. Either he dies (almost certainly if he's town) or doesn't (and then he starts getting more suspicious). Whereas if we lynch him, it's ultra-bad if he flips town and definitely good if he flips scum but quite risky.

It could also be possible (WIFOM WIFOM) that the kills were planned to 1) avoid protective roles and 2) make marv more suspicious. It's not impossible at least.

I won't vote for Chopin, but I won't strongly object pressure on him since it might produce interesting reactions or something like that. At least it's more interesting than everyone just voting VA.

It would be better if the lynch was between players like VA/Damdred though.

I'm pretty sure there's at least 1 scum between VA/Damdred. Not as confident that there's one between VA/Chopin.
