I asked for one fakeclaim - I asked for a shrink fakeclaim and got

You are insert name here. You have had experience with Cybermen before and know that only through the power of love can someone be redeemed. Each night you can "unconvert" a Cyberman conversion by PMing that person’s name to all the hosts, and that person will be converted back to town from Cybermen. This will only work if you target a player who was converted in the last cycle (day and night) and if that player originally had a town win condition.

You win with the Town.

I felt like there was no way it would be in the game, however - too OP for reasons discussed in game (I think by austin?)

@austinmcc: I'm glad you were in this game as a good town role model for me, even if you eventually became scum.
I'm still relatively new to forum mafia (this being my second completed game) and I feel like I picked up some good ways of thinking through players over the course of the game, even if they eventually led me wrong. Thanks for playing!

re: Toad/Foolishness:
I honestly didn't get bothered by this at all. I know Foolishness has reputation for skill but I just can't imagine sheeping someone who isn't even in the game.
(I was more worried that I made alakaslam sad :C )

I am kind of stubborn about these things, I generally would rather just pretend something related to the host or outside players didn't happen.

I really enjoyed this game a lot!
The few times tempers flared up they seemed to settle down pretty quickly, the massclaim was a fun puzzle to solve (though I'm not sure if it helped or hurt town to claim), and I felt pretty presidential firing a nuke at robo-kita.
Thanks very much for hosting!

This was a big part of my kush read day1. Turns out there was no one to link to him. So much for that bright idea.

So... the two players that seemed most town won as mafia... :[
SOMEHOW I AM NOT SATISFIED WITH THIS "VICTORY"

I am not that good at understanding setups.
To me, conversion was a really difficult aspect of the game to deal with because I didn't know any of the mechanics behind it. It seems like consistency in play across days would be the biggest tell that someone has been converted. But, it's always possible someone will just be sick or busy on a given day, so trying to determine if it's real life of alignment change is tough. I didn't know how conversions worked, so I constantly asked myself if I needed to re-assess everyone every day... and mostly concluded it would be impossible to try :D lol.
I was thinking it'd be neat if there was some indication when someone was converted (I don't know... maybe a mechanical scream is announced in a day/night post or something like that).

That said, I really don't know if the game was more balanced for town or scum. Town had some weird self-destructive moves, and as kita pointed out, there were quite a few points where slight differences in our play might have tipped the game to a town victory.

Totally not bragging, but I smelled austin's conversion from miles away in obs qt.

As for hopeless it'd be nice if he could work out a way to make himself readable as town. Idk but his style keeps being unreadable to me. I guess the day I'm a mafia god is the day I can read him.

I'm usually the first one to be self-depreciating about my play, but my activity for this game was really shitty even for me. I've been working on getting my mom a new car and selling her old one, which finally got done this weekend but then also catastrophe

as for the conversion mechanics, i feel like it would have been super useful for the OP to have a little bit more in terms of what scum were capable of. Conversion+KP+rolecop+ literally unkillable? thats just a little bit stacked for kush. I know town was also really heavy on power roles, but general suspicion of lies, fake claims, godfather or bus drive mechanics...I think scum's toolbox was stronger than towns.

Well without shrink scum becomes theoretically unbeatable only with lynches just from D2 on. You lynch one, they convert one. That's why their abilities are factional under a certain number of something I think. So roleblocks work when they become too many. But idk, one conversion a day seems a bit too strong to me, and starting with only one scum is weak for them. That poor D1 kush lol

the setup looks super snowbally, but scum gets first crack at it imo. And I dont particularly like that the shrink has to sacrifice himself, effectively giving scum +1KP in exchange for a convert.

Well it wasn't technically 1 conversion a day, it was 3 conversions by day 5 with the way it was staggered.

I knew scum was strong, but I felt that was balanced with the roles and the many opportunities town had to screw up scums plan as well as just having more townies in the beginning of the game which makes it harder for scum to blend in. Like if Toad played very townie early on he can soak a shot or conversion. Rayn could have prevented one conversion. Roleblocking could have stopped a conversion or shot (and it almost did this game), medics and jailkeepers can save a target which they did, you also had vigs from the inventions, Doctor, and the Emperor, plus cops checks and tracks or watches.

I agree it was swingy but I felt that it rewarded good play overall. Town almost won with actions and deduction. I do agree that I maybe should have revealed some more info about scum, maybe not in the beginning but later on like austin mentioned using an "event" or something to help.

@Amiko
Conversions are a rarity and not seen outside themed games because they are so hard to implement and balance.

Well the conversion and shot can't be factional on night two so the mafia team has to deal with up to three offensive roleblocks and 3 protective roles just to get their shot through. On top of that, they need to ensure they don't get caught by the cop, tracker, watcher, inventor, vig, or nuker. It's a minor miracle that I survived until night three by avoiding the jarjar check, d3 nuke, and conversion roleblock.

If I were to make a few small tweaks to the setup, I would remove kush's immortality at the beginning of the game. Essentially, that's a waste of time for everyone since it's literally impossible to pull off a scum lynch. Essentially I went after rayn because I had a town read on nearly the entire game so he was one of the few players left. Instead, I think that kush should have had the ability to immediately convert a player in the event that he was lynched.

I would also probably replace the role cop with a roleblocker to deal with mass claims a bit better and maybe remove the inventor.

I thought hope's role was actually pretty cool and I liked the mechanic dealing with becoming immune to roles after one use. Holding off on amiko's nuke until d3 was a nice touch. Overall, real cool setup considering how difficult it must have been to pull off.

FREE FAKECLAIMS. FREE.

Yeah, I could not summon the oomph to keep hunting hard, because the game was essentially over. Kita kinda had to get deaded, but ... I could just roleblock someone at night, NOT use kp, start a conversion, get the roleblocked person lynched (lol no KP) --> one more NK --> conversion kicks in. Woulda been what, 1-5 at the start of D4, 1-4 at the end of D4, 2-2 at the start of D5 from the NK and the convert. So just because things felt so foolproof based on the timing of everything that happened, I had a hard time being super active and trying to hunt scum. Honestly, I probably would have done a better job if I'd not been looking at multiple people and just parked my vote on any single person.

I've had...mixed success with how I play. Thanks for the compliment though. I would highly highly suggest trying to make a game fun and trying to talk to people when they're frustrated. As far as being led wrong...I wasn't joking that this game was similar to another game where I sort of became town-leadery after forcing a scum lynch through, but then just lynched the crap out of townies forever.

I wouldn't necessarily remove kush's immune but I would inform town of the ability, or like you suggest, change it such that conversion executes simultaneously with the lynch, as that is reminicent of "im a cop you idiot" as far as mechanics go. Way more manageable from a setup speculation standpoint and I feel would have given me (personally) a much better grasp on what I needed to consider as reasonable for scum.

I was too close minded. i made so many posts about austin being lazy and/or scummy or whatnot, but i couldn't get over my assumption that the setup would allow so many conversions. i really wish I'd stopped to consider that conversions might happen after the day deadline

is that what happened? i'm still not sure about who was scum when

well I am glad that I realized how off austin was. but i got owned by the setup lol.
