Towns rarely lynch Scum on Day 1 - why would you expect us to be able to pick out who is Town so quickly? Unless their are roles that can act now that reveal information on other players then it's a crap shoot.

"Find a person we all agree is Town" = "Pick the most outspoken player".

I'd rather go random.

WTF. This started fast. There are some seriously big guns doing nothing much interesting for about 3 pages. That makes me think all that talk about veterans is code for spammer. Spammers make bad captains (true story).

Hello people of TL,

This is my first game either playing or observing where a mayor is involved. At first glance it seems a pretty bad thing for town (particularly day 1 as its easiest for scum to blend in) but I guess we don't have a choice (right?).

What I hate about Day 1 (in all three games I've played -_-) is the tendency for town to get worked up over nothing. In the last game I played (SoaF) Day 1 bacame a pissing contest between two players, with scum and noobs sheeping either for fear of putting their heads out. A good mayor in my eyes would, though not discourage people from pressurising others (how else are we gonna get information on people's alignment) but keep it from devolving into the War of the Roses (note both players in my previous example were town).

I also don't like how in my previous games Day 1 lynches have been foccussed (usually) on one player, or at least people are too scared to argue for there n°1 scum choice as the dominating town players are only foccussed on their own pick. It seems reasonable to have a policy 'vote who you believe is most likely to be scum, until the last X hours where, as a lynch is good for town, we need to compromise for the good of the town.'

If you are wiling to do these things you have my vote.

Are we voting in this thread for mayor or in voting thread?

Time to discuss some policy! If you vote for me as the captain of the Antioch I promise to be harsh on lurkers. I don't think a lynch all lurkers policy makes sense, because invariably at the end of D1 there is a better candidate in any case. I prefer to vig shot lurkers, because there is little to be learned from votes on them. I am good at keeping tabs on people and seeing where they stand on things, whether their posting makes sense and am tireless in the pursuit of scum. True lurkers will be flushed out of hiding, forcing them to show their true colors, or shot for insidious lurkering.

Regardless of who ends up captaining this ship, we need to hunt scum, so the captain has someone to toss out the airlock.

Everybody may be joking about lynching Ace, but his posts have been silly oneliners. If that is his plan for this game, I am not opposed to flushing him straight into space. It will get rid of one non-contributing player, and in addition be hilarious!

This is the first game I've played that has allowed outside chat, So maybe it's common practice... To me though...I don't see much point to just start randomly communicating on Skype or otherwise.... Either way, it's day 1, and I'm simply pointing out things that caused me hesitation in voting.

Is this the first time you played mafia, however? How is willingness to talk to anyone or trying to get plans into motion a scum trait or untrustworthy? Also that's the literal opposite of sneaky. Your reasoning just doesn't make sense, first time with pms or not. You just got basically anyone who ever proposed to be captain and found a random reason for them to be a bad vote.
