12 town, all VT 4 scummers, all Goon
Everyone has a cannon with 1 shot. There are no lynches and no dayphases, only 24-hour nights. You can do one of three night actions:
1. Load: adds another shot to your inventory 2. Fire: fires a shot (if you have one) at any target. Successful hit if target is firing or loading 3. Defend: Save yourself from any incoming cannon fire.
So everyone is simultaneously a vig and a medic.
At the end of each nightphase, the names of all players who fired are listed alongside the usual flips. Not who killed who, but simply a list of names who sent in the ##fire command. You are not notified if you are shot while ##defending.
I think there's an actual not-mafia game based on this mechanic but I forget what it's called and I'm a big fan of plagiarism anyway. Couldn't mafia just defend forever until town gets bored? Or vice versa?

What if there is a limited number of defenses? Like 5. Given that each night is 24 hours long it shouldn't stretch the game for too too long.

See I had thought defend only blocked 1kp which was why I had suggested targeting others. Maybe that'd suffice if it was only a 1kp block?

See I had thought defend only blocked 1kp which was why I had suggested targeting others. Maybe that'd suffice if it was only a 1kp block? The problem with that is that you still end up in a deadlock during the endgame. Imagine a situation where only one scum is left. Everyone can just defend and force a draw since scum only has 1 KP to coordinate.

The current situation is that the scummer only has to wait a maximum of five nights before he can kill someone. Probably less if it's late in the game. It's like starving people out and then reducing the game to a state where only he has the defends left.

Maybe preferable would be "defending uses a loaded bullet" type idea?

Defending costing a bullet might be an interesting idea. It certainly would make people a lot more vulnerable.
I could go for either one right now.
