I'll check over your setup before you launch.

Foolishness, please add me to the list for [T] Vengeance Mafia. Also I will have "the job" done hopefully by tomorrow/Sunday. Unfortunately travel and the start of school got in the way of me making the necessary arrangements.

I would wait for this to start not join any other games to stay under the limit for this, I think you would get more intrest then you think as I am almost afraid to jion a themed game at this point, but haveing a newbie game the has coaches for this I am sure would get a ton of interest.

Something like what Ace or Hiro would make with a couple roles that are new/strange but otherwise the game is normal.

Why not have a regular theme game and offer coaches for newer players if they want? The point of newbies is to introduce people to mafia, to let newer players play without getting flamed by vets and with the support of coaches, and to figure out things like what to talk about day 1 and how to react when someone claims medic. If people want bootcamp themed games, that's fine, but I don't see a call for themed newbies at all. Someone who just got introduced to what a detective and a serial killer is, should not need to figure out what a Time Traveling Psionic Poisoner does, or how to react when someone claims to be a Demented Phantasam from the Veil. But once they have the basics down, there's no need to coddle them further, they should be encouraged to join the regular playerbase. Adding a new 'tier' where you need a newbie played before playing a themed newbie and a higher game limit seems like it would reduce signups for existing themed games even more.

This looks like the perfect kick-off for having another 20-page discussion about what makes a normal game normal, but lets not do that please?

Never mind making newbie games themselves much more stretched than they already are. People also forget how even simple blue roles are pretty complex for newbies. And this isn't a sleight on newbies. It's hard enough to know what to do with a role, how roles interact, when and how to claim if necessary, what to make of other claims, etc. I merrily lynched an uncounterclaimed cop day 2 of my newbie game. Serial killers are already pretty tricky in newbie games, I've seen more than one mafia perfect victory with SK involved where town doesn't really know how to deal with it. I don't really understand why you'd introduce more complex stuff when it's the nitty gritty of basic scumhunting, lynching, and blue stuff that needs to be learnt in newbie games.

Why not have a regular theme game and offer coaches for newer players if they want? This most likely the best option, guess thats why they pay you the big bucks. It doesnt have to be every themed game, but maybe after 2 newbie games finish the next themed game gets a coach or 2. This would most likely ease the transition for noobs and drop the intimidation factor to increase noobie turnover into normal games.

Now it's another couple of steps on from there to having YugiMoto, the 5th party card fiend in your game, and I don't think anybody wants to see a newbie game with that kinda stuff. However, I don't think there is much reason not to go a little further than I have, and throw the odd newbie game out there with a closed setup, or death millers or some other pretty weird mechanic. As long as it is kept within reason. This looks like the perfect kick-off for having another 20-page discussion about what makes a normal game normal, but lets not do that please? I'm fine with traditional roles in newbie games, masons and hatters and to a lesser extent trackers and watchers are not that hard to understand, especially if they are explained in the OP (I mean newbies always get confused with watchers and trackers, but that can be explained in the pregame). Closed setups are an awful idea for newbies, since newbies are assumed to not know what any role does (Imagine it, someone claims detective in a newbie closed set up game, everyone mills in confusion trying to figure out what a detective *is*), and if someone hosts a newbie with death millers I will have an aneurysm. Weird mechanics are what you want to avoid when you are learning how to play, since weird mechanics are by definition different from normal mechanics, making them bad for learning the basics. If someone wants me to coach a non-newbie theme game, I'm totally up for that though ^_^
