I think coaches for an entire alignment (outside of newbie games since the demand is so high in them) are a bit silly, the biggest reason being that they tend to inadvertently reveal information they shouldn't. If someone wants a personal coach, they can always find one on their own and then clear it with the host beforehand. I don't really see the need to have anything formal about it.

I think the point of newbie games is to entertain them and get them to come back in the future if they enjoyed their experience. Informative doesn't always equal fun or interesting and new player recruitment was always the main goal back when the forums were hidden.

We were fine for years without newbie games and new players were hardly a burden or incapable of learning, even if they played their first game in a theme game.

That being said, GM's point about having a newbie player joining a theme game makes more sense than a theme game with only newbies.

there's nothing stopping new players joining themed games anyway. No reason IMO to make yet another queue.

I wasn't petitioning for a new spot on the queue. I just had an idea for a good training themed game.

I didn't think Mayor Elections were legal in newbies, and there was another global mechanic that I wanted to try out.

I would call it "Town-Hunting Mafia". Basically, instead of voting for lynch, you vote for the towniest person. They become Mayor, choose who is lynched. But here's the kicker. If you call someone scum/mafia, you lose your vote for the day. Originally it was "call someone scum and you die", but that seemed a little harsh for a newbie game.

Speaking of newbies, I've pm'd most of the regular hosts that aren't already hosting or indicated that they are busy, but wasn't able to find anyone for the next game. I'll be available to host one the 4th week of July, but until then, there likely won't be a game running unless someone volunteers.

On a side note, this thread is great when that mean old Foolishness isn't around to tell us to get off his lawn.

Thank you to Blazinghand for offering to host the next five newbie minis. He loves them.

Don't worry you can trust me. I will teach all these newbies to play in the exact same way I do. Surely this will make TL mafia an excellent place. What's this new flock of the newbies hits the normal games we can all thank kitaman for putting me in charge )))))

In minis I basically only use parity cops

I don't think that's newbie material tbh, its like my nomination setup, much more suited for a themed mini IMO. Kita's/foolishness' call though.

I say it's a valuable training tool for new players, and I'll bet I can get Ace to agree with me at least

Sure, so is nomination, and no flip setups. "good training" doesn't mean "newbie friendly". Newbies are people who have NEVER played a game of mafia before, starting a newbie with a greenhunting setup is like starting a starcraft player with nexus wars.

Good for getting a hang of micro and the RPS feel before throwing them into the gauntlet that is Ladder?

A waste of time. You get a better feel vs bots, or other newbies, but then the analogy doesn't apply anymore. :-P

Anyway, we're fighting over analogies, we're not going to convince each other, so lets just run with what kita/foolishness say ^_^
