For instance, last game, after a few nights of getting the wrong leads, I was really struggling to get good scum reads, so when asked who I thought was scum, should I have just gone for the best option, or just told them that I didn't know at the time. Or am I just super bad for not knowing?

It can be especially difficult when your early reads turn out to be wrong, and all the connections you had hoped to draw no longer apply. When someone asks you who you think is scum, and you're feeling fuddled and muddled, I would say it's important to NOT just go with the best option. Explain your confusion, explain what happened to your early reads, and weigh in on who you think is an acceptable lynch. As a town aligned player you do NOT want to just go with the crowd, as 1. that does nothing to separate you from scum, who are often also just blending in, and 2. it does nothing to further the town lynch discussion(it simply bandwagons someone who you obviously don't feel all that strongly is scum). Eventually you get experienced enough that you can start separating out the players who are obviously town. That leaves you with a smaller pool of players to scum hunt through. You then winnow those down to players who you have an active scum vibe on, and those who are simply null. You then concentrate on and pressure those whom you have an active scum vibe on, and pay attention to move more and more players into the likely town category. Keep a spread sheet with roles, vibes, activity levels, notes and maybe vote lists as well, though I think in general early vote lists don't tell much. Hopefully that answers your question ![]()

The fact of the matter is, that if the scum kill the best players, you have failed your job as medic. While Scum often WIFOM themselves out of shooting the best players simply because of medics, often times good players get under scrutiny and aren't considered super townie for a while. Ex: in TL Mafia L, BC and Protact(incognito) had a lengthy battle in-thread calling each other scum. Thus no one was really sure who was townie, for a bit. BC was mayor, so he couldn't be shot at night due to bodyguards, however protact was a potential mafia shot. They could've seen him and thought "well, he's a super amazing town analyst, but because he doesn't have very good town cred yet, maybe we can shoot him tonight!". And if you're a medic not healing protact, you just failed to heal your DT. GG that's my 2c, have never played medic. + Show Spoiler + ![]()

IMO Make a requirement of 1 newbie game to play in another game, and the mod of the newbie game has to give a "pass" to other games that says they're active enough to play in non-newbie games. What do you guys think? Hard to quantify something like that though. Even the most active players have random spurts of inactivity during games because life happens.
