Holy shit another USA distance medal as Leo Manzano nabs a silver!!!!!!!!

Really a shame about Asbel Kiprop though, guy was absolutely the monster favorite to win the 1500m, but with the hamstring injury was obviously unable to compete as desired.

Still no idea what to think about Makhloufi. Guy certainy had one of hell of an awesome race, annihilating the field over the last 200m or so...sure would have been fun to see him against the fully functional Kiprop. Unfortunately for Makhloufi he is from North Africa which is absolutely notorious for doping and obviously the race itself is pretty shocking. This feels like the makings of a Ramzi 2.0 all over again, but...right now he has nothing against him. Fantastic performance and a (hopefully) well deserved gold, and we may well be seeing the rise of another all time great.

No he didn't lol. I'm quite certain the doctors were more than aware he wasn't injured in any way. The process was just a formality to get around the silly rule about being DQed in all events for not trying in one, which was an issue only because Algeria is apparently incompetent at removing athletes from events they have deciced they don't want to do.

There is absolutely NO reason Makhloufi should not have been on the 1500m starting line today and I am glad the issue was resolved.

Apparently Alister Brownlee's time in the running leg of the triathlon was only 1:20 slower than Mo Farah's gold medal time and good enough to not be last. That is some insane endurance.

There you go, as you can see the USA dominates swimming, which has a huge amount of medals up for grabs, but the Chinese dominate a lot of other events and it adds up. The Gymnastics is probably the real battleground, both countries are very strong in them but China came out ahead.

edit: The US media probably shows a lot of swimming too, I think most countries focus more on the events they do well in +Bolt.

"it's impossible" "It's a 4x400 relay race" etc :p

China has won 5 gold medals in each of Swimming, Weightlifting, Diving, and Badminton. On the other hand, the vast majority of US gold medals are swimming, where we have 16. China just wins a much bigger variety of events.
