edit: The BBC are so bitter about the new medal restrictions haha. Personally I think that in the end it's made our team stronger because now we have more strong riders competing in less events each, even if it leads to less medals overall it leads to more reliable golds. Well I don't really care for the countries but it can screw over individuals. To work so hard for 4 years and then not to be picked and then its like, now what do I do? Its not like that in many other sports =/. Really ? Whining like that ? The rules are the same for everyone. France couldn't bring some of his best athletes too (particularly in the Women category) and I have no doubt that it was the same for Australia too. Dude did you even read my first sentance? I DON'T CARE FOR THE COUNTRIES. I swear you're just going out of your way to call out british people for whining at every single post. The post was tailored to indiduals regardless of their origin, so yeh it can screw over the french, the brits, the austrialians, any country that has the top few candidates. I was complaining from an indiviuals stand point. You're the 2nd best in your country and you can't compete even though your in the top 3 in the world. It's really unfair towards the individual. The NOC chooses the athletes, there is often no clear 2nd. Some of them are actually number one and can't be qualified because of the restrictions impose on cycling. It's not unfair towards the individuals, it's just the rules. But why aren't the same restrictions imposed on other disciplines? Britain currently dominates track cycling, but that's only because we put more money into it than any other country and its still a relatively undiscovered sport, by restricting the number of medals a country can gain from cycling they're only going to make it less likely that countries invest in cycling.

Ok so Matthias Steiner (the weightlifter) will not return to the competition.

Oh my god that's so depressing
Liu Xiang.....also doesn't help that expectations have always been so high for him, or that this is probably his final Olympics...
Wow, that's ridiculous O_O
What's the all-time record for most golds and/or medals, out of curiosity?

You can ask the IOC and the british organization commitee for that because those restrictions exist in all disciplines albeit differently. Imagine what would have happen if Slovakia, Germany and France were allowed to field multiple boats in Canoe Slalom ? Or if China were allowed to enter more than 3 person in Badminton. In the same logic, Jordyn Wieber couldn't participate in the all-around finals despite being 4th because 2 of her countrywomen were ahead of her.
PS : Also note that the british organization commitee isn't directly responsible for the limitation but they imposed budgetary restrictions on all delegations which in return decreased the number of athletes.

The 3m diving finals were amazing, Russia won gold, and China silver and bronze. Sadly Mexico was first throughout the first 4 rounds, then in the 5th and 6th round ended up 6th...

Lol I've never seen a more angry silver medallist than this Russian wrestler. He is so sour on the podium.

Amazing job by the Zakharov. Loaded up his retinue with the highest difficulty dives possible and executed perfectly on every one of them. Took a risk, and it paid off. Well done.

Shouldn't US in 1984 and USSR in 1980 come close?

Shouldn't US in 1984 and USSR in 1980 come close? 1980 USSR was 195 with East Germany in second with 126 1984 USA was 174 for USA but like fLyiNgDroNe said there really isn't much of a point in counting them the problem with 1904 as well is " A total of 651 athletes from 12 nations participated in 91 events in 16 sports at these games. However, only 42 events included athletes from countries other than the United States" Only 12 nations and many of the events were just pure American competition so the medal count is ridiculously skewed

Plus, I don't get why there are all those holes in the back of them. When we run next to Trinidad & Tobago athletes it's hard to tell which ones are the Americans from far away as well.

And hey, guess I wasn't the only one who thought the uniforms looked terrible this year. Yikes.
