Og and tsm are both previous winners of iem don't see why would you not invite them.

Well they got to these IEMs by popular vote. But its true the bigger problem is that teams qualify so long in advance before the seaosn even started.

Well they can't hold qualifiers so might as well just try to get what will bring the most viewers. I am sure they would prefer to make a real tournament rather than what they have been doing but they can't.

TSM were invited, they didn't win IEM.

They won the last season.

They could always invite based on LCS results which would obviously be way better.

They also have to invite teams and they have to accept weeks in advance though. A lot can change in a few weeks as well.

Honestly week 3/4 tsm looked decent and most assumed they would improve but they haven't at all.

But they need to hand out the invites way in advance for the visas, no?

Problem is even LCS can be a bit inconsistent at times. Ideally we'd just have 3rd party tournaments properly integrated with LCS. There's no real reason we can't have LCS teams having 1/2 days a week where they can play online qualifiers for stuff.

Then you could get random results, because "we wanted to concentrate on LCS, so we could not practice for this/did not take this seriously", and suddenly you have Dignitas vs. Giants at IEM.

It doesn't work like that. Nobody has strats that work only vs one team but not vs any else. If teams don't care about tournaments they just wouldnt even participate in the online qualifier.

Yea I don't see how it's worse than current stuff anyway. We may even see teams experimenting more in them, maybe getting subs some experience in the roster etc.

Realistically I don't see Riot ever allowing it or any 3rd party stuff to be really good. Idk why I mentioned it :<

But my point is, would playing at IEM would worth the effort? Playing through a qualifier then playing in the LCS? In soccer, you get qualified the likes of Champions League or Europe League based on your performance in your own region. And yes, it happened many times, that a team which got into one of these leagues sold most of its star players, so they sucked big time when the time came to actually play in the competition.

Point is, assuming time constraints are real and a pain in the ass, it is near impossible to work out a system which guarantees you that we will see quality games at IEM.

It really isn't. You just coordinate lcs and iem time. There is literally an off week for lcs right now just so the teams can go to iem.

The teams not giving a shit you can't fix obviously.

Riot would and should never do that. LCS is a story, and it would be extremely lackluster that while the point of LCS is to see which teams qualify to the playoffs, then just randomly have a big play-off in the middle of the split. Bad idea.
