A few hypotheses to keep in mind: H1. Korea's eSports infrastructure is what keeps Koreans ahead in eSports. Projected outcome: LCK ~ LPL at MSI, LCK > LPL at Worlds, with previously second-tier/third-tier Korean players trumping the Chinese imports by the end of Summer. On average, the Chinese imports' skill level drops and eventually converges to the Chinese average the longer they stay in the scene, such that by the end of 2016, there is little difference between all-CN and CN+KR teams. H2. Raw talent/not exportable culture, to a greater degree than infrastructure, is responsible for Korea's success. Projected outcome: LCK ~ LPL at MSI, LCK < LPL at Worlds, due to SKT being the only team with talent equivalent to those on LPL teams. The tier 1 Korean players eg Deft, Imp, Pawn, etc. end up dumpstering the tier 2/tier 3 Korean players in LCK, while at the same time staying ahead of their Chinese teammates. There is a permanent and insurmountable skill difference between the CN+KR teams and the all-CN teams. H3. Exportable culture is responsible for Korea's success, to a greater degree than both talent and infrastructure. Projected outcome: LCK ~ LPL at MSI, LCK ~ LPL at Worlds, due to both regions converging to the same exportable cultural attitude towards eSports as a result of LPL importing Korean work ethic & coaching. In this scenario, Chinese players on CN+KR teams, especially those with Korean coaches, gradually improve to tier 1 LCK level, and there is no longer a skill disparity between them. The smoking gun for this hypothesis is an all-CN team with a Korean coach becoming the best team in LPL. Given how these Korean players in China are performing. I'm starting to lean towards H1. | ||
