If he doesn't dive, he doesn't need Zhonya's. But in the midgame Kog wasn't strong enough yet so he had to go deeper to zone/stun the carries on his frontline.
(Not particularly defending the Rylai's, but the fights in which he'd have needed Zhonya's the most, he didn't have the budget since support.)

i feel like kennen support doesn't care about surviving, and kalista ulti itself is kind of like a zhonyas... rylais jsut adds more utility, extra slows is pretty nice skill toi have

Hai's lack of playing pressure champs killed them there. Sure it was a last pick, but its a last pick you wouldn't even ponder practicing if you were going to be up against Bjergson, Febiven, or another mid who puts on pressure during the laning phase.

He maxed Q last actually, so it wasn't for that. I think he maxed W first (for the damage spike, and later in teamfights he can activate it on everyone within his ult), then E (more resistances, lower cd so more mobility to avoid the bindings and stuff when he walked forward).

Actually I disagree a little bit. Ignite Corki can't be down that much CS against a tear-rushing Kogmaw in the midgame and expect to win.

Luden's has given AP kog a small early buff so idk how valid your analysis is. Certainly, pre-luden's this was the case. I feel like C9 had the ability to win that game if they didn't fumble after securing the baron.
