If you want to load up your 16 team World Championships with a bunch of shitters who are completely out of their depth at this level then at least alter the format so I don't have to spend 5 days watching them.
It's not like World Cup ain't filled with shitters ( okay, last World Cup was actually better than before). Like, i probably can ask distribution in general, with giving 2 spots to Wildcards instead of 1 and giving that spot to Korea but not a big deal, honestly, only chance for non-Korean finally is Shield choking in group anyway, so let's just watch, playoffs are going to be good.

I mentioned the same earlier but as others pointed out Riot was 'smart' and split Worlds over 2 countries so they dont actually have the production to make a switch like that. But having 1 day between a double round robin kinda sucks.
Oh group C and D are played in Singapore ? Okay then my bad. I guess I won't watch much of the games this weekend. I don't expect any upset after these two days.
I wish Riot would account for regional preformance and readjust number of slots. "Due to overwhelming performance from CN and KR teams last year, they both get one additional spot at Worlds. Meanwhile Wildcard and SEA teams didn't perform well, so SEA only get one direct slot and the final one will be decided in a pre-qualifier between all the Wildcard regions, SEA #2, NA#4 and EU #4."
Also TSM <3 And SK looking decent, I'm still hopeful for a great return of the guy who did nothing wrong. And Gilius looks promising, UOL might be hype.

If nothing else it must have been a great experience for Gilius

It's fine as it is, but people need to temper their expectations. This is not The Invitational or any other type of tournament that already exists. It's like WCG and it's like having Men's Basketball at the Olympics. KR dominate everything, everyone else is just happy to be there, but there's a glimmer of hope that given enough time, the rest of the world can narrow the gap and eventually upset KR. Personally, I don't get as hype about Worlds nearly as much as each region's playoffs to get to Worlds.

If we didn't do this worlds would be 6 Korean 2 Chinese teams
I would have preferred that. How come the international can have 5 chinese teams, but korea can only get 3 in LoL? It's a damn shame korea only gets 3 spots.

Because Value is inviting the best teams and Riot is trying to create an international event. You can dislike the format but trying to compare the LoL WC and TI 1 to 1 is silly because they have different goals.

Because International is mainly invite-based, teams are getting invited for their perfomance whole year and not 3 months like in glorious LCS, plus International has those massive qualifiers from all 4 regions + Wildcard.

Meh, Champion's League gets the best team out of each country too, which results in things like Ludogorets vs Real Madrid or Barcelona vs Ajax.
I just think SEA should probably combine their playoffs with CIS teams, that would make things better.
Do we really want League to turn into SC2 where foreigners basically don't exist and all the regions are infested with Koreans?
Worlds is exactly that - Worlds. Eliminating spots for competition outside of Korea only hurts the chances of anywhere outside of Korea upsetting them drastically.
Riot is doing an amazing job in promoting Esports worldwide and neutering their efforts ala Starcraft 2 wouldn't help anything.
Of course favourites exist. Favourites will always exist in any competition at a World Stage. You can always go watch the Korean scene anytime you want. However destroying all competition outside of Korea certainly doesn't help League as a whole.

I dunno, something about a *World* championship involves inviting teams from around the world? It's like complaining about having to watch Iran be in the World Cup, or FC Basel in the UEFA Champions League. You can't be trying to promote a worldwide game and then be like 'Okay here's the world championships we are inviting the 16 best teams in the world. Too bad it's 12 Korean teams, 3 Chinese teams and Alliance. I hope you guys from North America and SEA tune in to watch your absolutely 0 representation!"
It's mindboggling that people can't see this, I mean beforehand people said they liked the tournament format...now it sucks because things are going predictably?

One thing I would like is for last years WC winner to get an automatic spot to Worlds. And more teams. 16 is still too little imo. Would rather see multiple streams going at the same time a la Valve and an expanded team pool (20+ teams). I'm ok with the format.

I dunno, would the finals really be better with Faker trying to drag the corpse of SKT around? It would probably be entertaining, I'll admit. But were s3 finals really worse off without TPA? And s2 finals worse because of no fnatic? The world of e-Sports just moves too fast that last years champion is rarely deserving of a spot in next years championship.
I think this format is fine. The best sports always have group stages with boring matches no one cares about because you're trying to seed the best teams into the real rounds.
Like, did anyone seriously watch every single game of the world cup?
On September 20 2014 02:04 stuchiu wrote: I cant get to the lolpedia. So did China and Korea advance?
They have done a full round robin but group stage is a double round robin so everyone will play everyone again of the next 2 days before group A/B are finished. Technically no one is through yet tho both are at the top of their group.

BW fans had no problem with this, but I guess it's different when you have a larger audience that likes cheering for teams of their home turf.

I think what hurts League competition the most is Riot's phenomenally amazing job of marketing the competition globally as if it isn't Korea>>>>China>>>>>>>>>>everyone else.
