Honestly, this doesn't need to be some complicated format with double elimination or anything. It's should be simple 16 team tournament with 4 groups of 4 based on seeding in respective regional seasons. Double round robin for a total of 6 games per team, top 2 advance with 1 seeds facing 2 seeds of another group. The only real consideration is if there needs to be a safeguard in place so we don't get 3 teams from one region in the same group but I'm sure something can be devised to prevent this in a fair manner.

Well we can argue that there are 4 major LoL regions, NA EU CN and KR, have like top 3 from each of these regions + 4 (or 8 making 4 groups of 5, 20 teams) from Wildcard/TW/SEA. And seed every region the same making it G1: #1Na,#2EU,#3KR,Wildcard G2: #1EU,#2KR,#3CN,TW G3: #1KR,#2CN,#3NA,SEA G4: #1CN,#2NA,#3EU,SEA/TW/Whatever

Then again WE and Royal Club could be perceived completely different in Chinese from how they are in English. lol when you think about it, most known chinese teams all have quite arrogant names. You either have to be invictus, or part of the royal club, or just strait up world elite. Complete contrast with their players behavior.

Most of Chinese community are WE Fans.(65% based on Allstar vote)Because 'Royal Club' just sounds silly in Chinese culture, most people don't like them or even hate them. No. The name is not the reason why Royal has tons of haters in China. Basically their players are assholes on soloq/stream, trolling, yelling, being toxic, afk, etc. Tabe looks like a completely different person when he starts speaking English. Kind of surreal. EDIT: except Godlike. He is the only player in Royal who does not have a bad reputation.

The problem is, in China, they are only called WE,PE in public;however, Royal Club are called Royal. The community are not comparing World Elite and Royal Club, but WE and Royal. WE is obviously much more acceptable than Royal.

no major regions first place goes to a group that allready has a 1st place in it. 1st and 2nd place from the same region go to opposite sides (AB one side CD one side). double round robin. Points for 1-1 and 2-0 need to be calculated by a mathematician to minimize potential ties. first 2 teams advance to a standard knock out stage just like every big tournament is using (see FIFA world championship for references). knockout stage will be BO5. all the 5th games and all 1 game tiebreakers must be blindpick to assure no team gets firstpick advantage unfairly. Weakness is: assuming 3 teams in each group because of financial restrictions, 4 teams will only play 2 other teams and then be out. But that also means they lost vast majority of their games and at some piint you have to filter out bad teams to get a high quality tournament going. It's a cultural thing, in regards to "royal" as opposed to "world elite". I dunno how to describe it, but calling yourself "royal" is sorta taboo-ish? I'm sure yango has a much better explanation.

I'm sure yango has a much better explanation. To put it simply, China is a country of aspiration. Anyone and almost everyone strives to be world elite, to have positive energy or w/e. However, to call yourself a royal is a big "no" in a society that has a love/hate relationship with getting rich and high status with no effort. Being a royal isn't something that people can aspire to or achieve. It's an unattainable status in a country all about status. There are many people in China who feel that they are like royalty and they may even delude themselves that they are, but even these people would feel second-rate next to royalty (the Chinese perception of such). i.e. 1. Chinese people hate feeling second-rate 2. Calling oneself royalty is ludicrously arrogant in an aspirational society without religion or monarchy 3. Chinese people love tearing down tall poppies

But tbh, even if Royal change their name, I doubt they can out-popular WE in China cos WE inherit alot of fans from WC3. WE.Sky was the first Chinese Warcraft WCG gold medalist. So WE will remain the most popular team in China unless Royal win this S3 and continue to perform well in Chinese LPL.
