It doesn't matter. AP is still better because it makes your W and your other spells more effective. Warmog's regen might partially offset the heal cost, but AP makes you heal more thus less HO cost.
You have to be extremely desperate to justify warmog due to survivability concerns.... like Vi + Malpite + Yasuo or something cheesy like that.
|
If that combo uses their stuff on you and your team loses you have bigger issues than survivability.
Soraka really doesn't need a warmog.Especially now with very few assassins if you manage to die as soraka you just failed at positioning.

So what would be a useful number to calculate? I'm thinking healed percentage of effective HP over time?
|
Heal is 240+0.6 AP vs 10% of your max hp with warmogs and no ap you're healing 240 for a cost of 250. With buying pure AP instead (nlr+blasting 120 ap) you're healing 312 for a cost of 170, nearly double the efficiency, the hp cost of 170 is just a bit less than a biscuit gives you 40% cdr increases your healing throughput by 66.7% which is effectively 267 ap in terms of pure W healing. Much less counting R and only Q and E ratios for a boost, but since 40% cdr is budget equal to about 80AP in terms of spamming someone to stay alive cdr is the best stat. CDR becomes better as you buy AP as well because its a % increase on total healing.
also i forgot to mention starcall healing is really good if you can hit the skillshots and also scales better with resists/cdr/ap/spirit visage than hp.

I dunno what's the worst match-up I've had to play, Wukong vs Darius, or Viktor vs Zed. Probably the latter because Zed never falls off that much, and can roam more easily since he's mid.

So there's PBE buffs to Runeglaive right now, like what? Riot, we aren't picking the AP junglers because Runeglaive is underpowered, its cause the junglers are underpowered.

It's because most of the good AP items are stuck behind a 1600g wall and early AP diversity is garbage for junglers. That, imo, is worse than the junglers being undertuned.
lol at those changes, Runeglaive is going to be OP as fuck and AP Ez first P/B.

But I think they should've left it for a while longer to see how it develops TBH.

The two points, disregarding whatever math you want to do, is that Soraka is a (usually) gold-starved support who wants resists. Taking an item without resists or some sort of immediate, relevant combat stats is bad. I guess mobis get a pass because you need to vroom vroom. Flask is good too.
|
Soraka doesn't get much less gold than any other support though. Even if you don't get talisman you're only losing maybe 800 gold most of which is saved by not investing in the cost inefficient stats in the talisman anyway. I dislike flask because I rarely run oom but I might just be flat out wrong on that one.

AP jungle itemization is ass. Want to go tank? Ruby Crystal/Cloth Armor/Null-Magic all come at a very convenient price point and build into everything. What is the most expensive component/component upgrade for tanks? The 600g to go from Ruby to Belt or Bami's. What about AD? Long sword builds into pretty much everything you need as a jungler. At no time do you ever want to build a BF sword. Cutlass is easy to build, Phage is easy to build, Tiamat is alright(Pickaxe) but not awful. Hexdrinker is easy. Last whisper has the same minor issue as Tiamat.
But what about AP? Aether Wisp is easy, but you don't want to build LB anymore and Ludens has a NLR in it. Rylai's? That's a niche item right now and hardly fits the Health/AP+Utility design in the same effect that Cleaver does for AD. Codex? You don't want Athenes, Banner, or FQC. Morello's might be an interesting option. Nashor's is probably overreaching on autoing in fights. Twin Shadows might fix some issues, but your itemization probably needs more umph than the active solves. lel WotA. Armguard is nice, but the only item it builds into on SR has a NLR. Guise? Liandry's is pretty bad. Revolver? lel WotA. Lastly, Void Staff is a build caper, not a founding item.
The AP sweep may help a bit, but even then NLR will still be 1200g.

My hunch is that Soraka actually might get a little more gold than other supports b/c of her global, but you'd have to run some stats on data from one of those champ statistics websites. It's a little ironic that I just to disregard math and now I'm saying do math.
I usually build spellthief -> flask on Soraka to really try and win lane. I play her super aggressively. Have to check what I do with my masteries, but rune page is 2AP quint/1MS, mostly mpen with two hybrids thrown in, flat armor, scaling MR.
EDIT: Also I have Soraka as my avatar, so I can say "am Soraka, can confirm".

Frozen Heart and Spirit Visage are both similar in price to Warmogs and work way better on Soraka.
The "I don't have enough gold to buy this but it is my level 18 fantasy Riot please" item is probably Zhonyas.
As to the earlier statement of Warmogs being bad "but its on probuilds a lot!", I'd say it's probably one of the biggest if not the biggest case of an item pro players buy that they shouldn't. Give me some example games from probuilds and I'll tell you what should have been bought instead, it'll be fun.
Hint: It's almost always going to be Face of the Mountain.

To be fair, Soraka does need some HP to not straight-up die to an AoE initiation (or the follow-up if you need to get in range of an ally initiated upon that the enemy team will swarm, you don't have a Lantern), and HP > resists in terms of EHP early on and on squishies, but not to the extent of Warmogs.
|
For me, I wonder how Talisman is on Raka after lane phase ends, like is the HP regen and active better than FotM active in certain situations?
In an ideal situation on SR, I feel like I would want to get FoTM/Frozen Heart/Spirit Visage/Mobi Boots/Ruby Sightstone/Zhonyas for a full item build as support Raka, but that might be wrong.

She gets HP from Sightstone and Spirit Visage.

How is there "early on" when we're talking support itemization and a big ticket item post Tier3/Sightstone/Boots? The early game should be over by that point.

Precisely what I said
For an AP item, I'd recommend Abyssal.
