Any decent gnar guides? played him a few times, not impressed. Feels very weak until lategame when you have stupid levels of AD.

You doing it wrong. With stutter-step micro and E he kites the shit out of jungle camps. Wraiths and Wight only camps you take any damage at, and god help any jungler that tries to fight Mega Gnar. Most junglers dont even do Wight, and Wraiths hit like wet noodles.

Also, start red, no Jungler can really fuck with you, except maybe like Red Start Lee, and probably Xin. But both of those dont see much play right now.


How do ganks work? Do you just have to go in with 90% rage or is just autoing with red enough on it's own?


Depends on who you ganking and how bad they over extended. But yeah, it really easy to go into a gank with like 98 rage and get transform with one auto. In general though, being able to gap close and Red buff slow is really damn good even without Mega-Gnar abilities. Even with flash, that alone kills champs with no gap closer / escape, but more mobile champs obviously require Meg-Gnar utility. Your Rage bar lasts literally forever though, like probably 30-45 seconds before it starts to decay. Ideal gank is run in, auto 1 time, get transform, use special E to slow, gap close and cut them off, then use Q to slow and save W for a flash / dash.

As for runes, I been using pretty standard Jungle ones. AS reds, 2x AS Quint, 1x MS quint, Armor Yellows, CDR Blues.

Feels strong to me right now, I want to test it more before I say anything more concrete though.

His Mega-Gnar teamfight utility is huge though. The peel, the counter engage... its pretty insane imo.

Trouble is just figuring out how to control when you go mega-gnar.

I've had rather mixed results, but I think a lot of that is me derping with his kit more than anything. I been going the other way though, more in the pure tank area than the pure AD area.

Personally I think you should just get one or two offensive items on Gnar before going full tank, it's just deciding which one to get. In theory you'll benefit the most from either pure AD or a mix of AD and AS, and life steal never hurts either. I want to try and go BT or BotRK first, and if the game allows me to, I'll get the other later on as a 5th or 6th item, and get tank items in-between.

Triforce. Spammy abilities, high base AD, and makes use of every stat outside of mana.

Why?

Lets be real, no other champion in the game can stun multiple champions on the enemy team 3+ times in a fight, and anyone who can come anywhere near close builds full tank almost every game.

I dont think he needs any offensive items. Although, I havn't really played him top at all, I just think he has the utility to just be alive and thats all he really needs unless you picked the ultimate low damage team or something.

Just from theory crafting ( i have zero play as gnar only played against) Runaans would be something interesting to try. I'd assume his W (% hp thingy) would stack to all targets hit and the extra bolts would result in super fast transformation from hitting separate enemies. note i say "interesting" not so much 'good'

from what i read Gnar builds rage at a set rate while in combat, and when hit, I don't think his attacks effect it

Interesting, even with no hard details. I sort of prefer the adaptability approach, where you have to focus on just one skill. But it also sounds good on paper, and does fit with his theme.

I haven't seen that screenshot before, but it looks tasty. Definitely won't feel bad about losing out on building an offensive item if it ends up with those sort of AP numbers.

We played Gnar jungle a lot last night (either me or a friend). Full tank, no damage items q max, w second.
Damage felt nice, camp clear is fast. You feel a bit squissy in the beggining but only if they catch you off guard.
Mega Gnar in the jungle is a deceptive way of sustaining as you gain hp every other camp.
It is really fun to play, and really have to play it to see how he can do.

The monster gnar can be really intimidating but from what I've experienced he doesn't have a large impact in winning games. Does gnar do most his damage in mini form?

Mega is lots of Utility and initiation, and a beast in 1v1. But the big damage comes from W in mini form.
