There are many ways to reduce snowballiness. They all have flaws though. Here's a few off the top of my head
1. Increase the reward of winning later fights Increase rate of gold increase on all creeps. This way if the enemy team wins one team fight, and then you win the next, you'll be even. 2. Introduce RNG Say there are consumable items that spawn in the middle of the river. One is called double damage that gives your ADC 10k more gold in stats. 3 hit Tryndamere. Pros can time the items if they spawn at random intervals but lower tiers can't. It doesn't matter as much to the winning team if they get double damage because they're already winning. A worse team can beat a better one if every member of the worse team gets 3 crits in a row at the start of the game. 3. Introduce chaos Buybacks and Rapier. Anything that can shake things up is good for the losing team. Homeguard boots. Have all the champs be overpowered. If a team can win a teamfight off of one good ult then gold leads matter less. In LoL all of your gold is translated into stats so more often than not, bad plays lead to your team still winning a team fight through sheer stats because bad plays are not punishing enough. 4. Baby the losing team Increase passive gold gain
What's most effective at lower tiers though is just to camp a brush. Often times teams can also get away with split pushing at lower tiers because if the enemy team is a mixed Elo then most of them will not respond well to split pushes, by either overreacting or underreacting to split pushes that draw out the game and negate gold advantages.
Personally I think there should be a reward for beating your opponent. I acknowledge that the game is snowbally, but I don't know if it'd be better if it weren't as snowbally. Right now if your team loses a team fight, you have to win the next two to be roughly even.
Perhaps Riot could test out trying to make it so that if a losing team wins 2 fights (after being 1 team fight behind) in a row they get ahead.

poke does feel way too strong right now, disengage also is a bit too easy with all the split pushing stuff running around. but the part about team fight comp having less income is also due to the nature of such a comp.
a team fight heavy comp relies on long cooldowns, and they need to be together to be effective. this limits their potential for map control and thus income control. when a team fight comp wins early game, they can still get in trouble with a split pushing, heavy disengage team.
it's not easy to find a punishment for the more mobile team using their mobility smartly, other than making one objective way more important than another. atm it seems that there are too many tradeoffs built into the team fight heavy comp with long cd and less flexible map movement.
the other problme seems to be the fact that team fighting is not the most effective way of sieging. poking and picks are way more effective, and a team fight comp typically can't threaten important enough objectives (inhibs) early enough for them to make their long cds time efficient vs a more mobile lineup eating up income all over the map.

On the other hand, team fight comps (at least imo) are and have always been the strongest comp in solo queue.
Every high win rate champion has historically been one with an AOE ult unless that champion was significantly broken beyond a shadow of a doubt.

er, don't they have low winrates, outside of pro games?

It goes beyond comps though. Its more fundamental than that. Sure, there needs to be ways to disengage and poke down a Karthus/Kennen comp, anyone can admit that.
The real problem is a team that is ahead and is doing a 3/1/1 or 4/1 splitpush is getting more farm than the team defending that strategy probably 80% of the time, PLUS they are threatening to get global objectives. Heck, even a team going 5-man on a turret doesn't have many tradeoffs because they either get the turret because the losing team sends a guy to farm, or they go even on farm + control all the major river + jungle objectives.
Posturing for an objective needs to have a real attrition cost to that teams overall gold, and currently that only really happens if that team does the EU-style baron "dance". Like, what is the punishment for poking a turret? I haven't played SC2 in a while, but LOL's proscene feels (from a fan standpoint at least) like a game where there is almost no way to punish a 4-gate or a 6-pool other than doing a better 4-gate/6-pool.

O_o Press r comps are ez wins in solo queue. You can be down 20k gold. But get dem overlapping ultis, and you can win team fights no matter how big the gold deficit is. That's why amumu was such high solo queue ban rate for so long

Press R's are harder to make work in pro-play than in soloq.
1. Higher levels players can punish if you have a lot of R's on CD. 2. Lower chance of getting 5 man mumu ult's due to superior positioning.

O_o I agree. I was talking about solo queue. You buff press R comps for pro play and suddenly you're looking at 60% win rate press R champs across the board for solo queue bronze->diamond.

It goes beyond Ult-Reliant comps. Renekton and Rumble have really good TF ults, but they are good at lvl 6 with no items. Its more about when you are relevant, than how.
Edit: Assassin/splitpush power is separate from what im talking about although it might contribute to snowball problems.

That thread in particular is full of rather amazing gifs and images however. I agree, his reasoning does seem... Off. I believe for the best however.
