I'd be surprised if he even knew the items required for an AP hero ;P On September 03 2013 23:04 Simberto wrote: What is wrong with a pro learning a new character by looking at what other pros use on him? Well vlad has been around for awhile and should check before the game not during :D

Enemy first pick takes Annie, I decide that I can do it with Viktor since he's got good burst, powerful early trades, and later on can just laser the wave to force Annie to drop her stun if she doesn't want to get pushed. Holycrapit'ssobrutalwtf. On one hand, the guy was a smurf (Gold I duoing with a Silver I close to the end of the season, 170 normal wins, 37-11 in ranked games), on the other hand the AD marks + dblade start considering she has 625 range (wow I thought 600, that's even worse) on her autos, versus 500 for Viktor (his Q has 600 spell range, so around the same as his autos) should be doable by anyone having a good grasp of Annie (I don't play her but I assume abusing her auto range is a big part of getting good at her), and it was sooo hard. Urgh. Good thing she pushed a lot with the auto harass and trying to stun me with a W, so I got all of the exp, but I missed so much farm when the huge wave reached the tower and she was just waiting for me to try to get one to harass. Kills were traded with a countergank and I focused on not dying, and we won in the end because Aatrox outfarmed Malph hard (and roamed faster than him) and we skirmished, where Viktor is stronger than Annie (easier to hang in the back and W/E people) and our comp in general outburst/cc'd theirs (Viktor/Aatrox/Shy/Graves/Blitz vs Malph/Annie/Elise/Leona/Cait), but I lost the lane super hard (Blitz had a godhand too). Interesting part is that while Annie would almost 100-0 me with her combo (guise/sorcs/deathcap core), I'd so the same to her, albeit slight slower because of DoTs/periodic damage. So she'd kill me if she got her stun off, but if I managed to make her burn it, then fight, not being stunned let me shield part of her damage with Q, and the W stun would buy me enough time for Q to come back and finish her off before she'd get her W. Whatever. I'm not picking Viktor against Annie again, she's so brutal at early levels ;_; (and Orianna has short auto range too... I think I'd suck against Annie in general).

If I get an Annie as Viktor, I all-in as soon as I get 6 for the most part. That lane is pretty much in her favor from my experience.

Fwiw, Viktor definitely loses to Annie. You just can't compete with the AA range, cycling stuns, and tibbers. The only thing you have on her is E clear range, but that's not gonna do much when you want to be aggressive early. Edit: My new Magic playmat just came in: + Show Spoiler +

New ? Vlad has been released in 2010 and is a "common" top lane pick, how come a pro top laner doesn't know how to build him ? That's what I found "choking", not the fact that he checked someone else's build.

You can avoid having to use photo editing software, but they charge $10 for editing, and since GIMP is free, might as well save $10.

Pros don't use every champion that are popular from other teams because every team requires something else from their top lane (in the West). EG needs a top that causes a lot of disruption/tankiness, which Vlad doesn't really do. Wicked has never needed to learn Vlad so imo why waste time learning a champ that he will never be play in a tournament at the moment and won't benefit his team? And even though Vlad might be "common", he has a pretty specific niche that not many team comps will allow.
