Seekers Armguard when stacked basically allows me to have a mid tier item that gives the same armor but also has some AP on it, and it'll be a lot more comfortable to sit on that stacked and finish the Zhonyas late in the game. Out of curiosity, which champs do you play? Since my positioning is sub-par and I play a lot of mids that need to get close and personal to achieve stuff (Morgana, Swain, Viktor, Syndra notably) it tends to be my 2nd/3rd item (tends to replace Deathcap on Swain since I get RoA first, and on Viktor if I get smashed really hard because I rush Augment first). Which translates to me getting Zhonya pretty soon and suffering from the price increase and the fact that I shouldn't sit on stacked Seeker's for long anyway.

Really don't care much about the Zhonyas active when I'm never fighting at sub-1000 range.

Mind sharing what in particular you focused on in those games that built up to a 200 point gain in elo? It mostly has to do with jungling and playing support for me, which are the two general "roles" that I focused on the most since I started playing the game because I found them to be fascinating for whatever reasons. A huge jump was in me figuring out how to actually play Maokai jungle. I had a pretty abysmal 15% winrate or something like that until I started making way near the end of S2 where I lifted it to 40%ish. I think fundamentally, I came to slowly become perceptive to when gank opportunities will present themselves and because to play Maokai successfully you have to put pressure on the lanes in some way, this helped me with jungling in general with all other junglers. I also started to get a dim grasp of keeping track of the opposing jungler, placing wards strategically to keep track of the opposing jungler, etc. This indirectly improved my laning a little as I've developed a slight sensitivity to jungle presence. I still suck dick at playing solo lanes though. The same with happened with Udyr jungle as well, where I made my way from 10% winrate to 50+ by the end of S2. I find that I can apply what I learned from these two junglers to pretty much all junglers. With support I've become more perceptive to the 2v2 lane dynamic with carries and supports, what each champ is capable of, and how I should try to play in response to the 4 person dance. So depending on the lane matchup, I've learned when I should be playing more carefully, when I can play more aggressively, certain timings that can be exploited, etc. "Lane presence" is what I started to dimly understand, I suppose. A lot of the little things are all just little snippets of data I've accumulated by playing over the year, especially lane matchups and timings that come with levels. And of course there's learning item efficiencies, and becoming more accustomed to teamfights and keeping a clear head instead of becoming lost in the 5v5 fireworks. I still have huge problems retaining clarity in the midst of teamfights but I've improved a lot from the headless-deer-fire-at-will stutters. My biggest problem with playing top or mid falls a lot to my lack of experience in there so I have a lot of knowledge gaps there. I'm pretty terrible at playing ad carry as well. I'm confident playing Zyra mid though, because she's so goddamned strong.

Before, you had trade-offs, crutches/corner-cutting and this kind of decisions involved in starting items and build paths to survive an AD vs AP lane (cloth then sell, lose 90 to survive lane? Get Tabi instead of sorcs? Rush chainvest? Be a man and forego armour entirely?). In a sense there was depth to it, and it involved playstyle. Riot saying "super cheap cloth is always interesting now and expensive chain vest a lot less" takes away a lot of this. 2. On top of that, they did it because players complained about "having to start cloth+5 and waste gold on cloth". Basically it's lowering the skill level because of a tantrum on GD. 3. In the case where you built Zhonya early on, Seeker's is actually worse than chain vest timing-wise, you could have more armour earlier with a chain vest, and retain the better slot-efficiency till Seeker's is mostly stacked. For example against a bruta rush, you'll have to rush Seeker's or you'll have less armour than a chain vest by the time they finish it (sorcs+chainvest is roughly the price of boots+bruta, say). See, I try to make shorter. ![]()

It's a matter of principle, specifically, "Perfection is achieved not when there is nothing left to add, but when there is nothing left to take away.” – Antoine de Saint-Exupery I don't like Seeker's Armguard because it's lazy. I don't mean that Riot is lazy, but that the item allows players to be lazy. The only thing stopping AP mids from starting Cloth Armor + 5p before was the inane idea that you can't buy an item unless it upgrades into something, or the idea that Tabi/Locket shouldn't be built on AP champions. Seeker's Armguard perpetuates these outmoded habits, promotes laziness of thought, and usurps the natural flow of discovery. It's possible I am mistaken regarding the extent to which bruisers and AD casters/assassins were a problem mid, but my impression is that making an entirely new item for the problem was unnecessary. I played Kassadin versus a friend on Pantheon to prove this point a month and a half ago, and utterly crushed him (anecdata perhaps, but relevant).
