New client?
There is no chance in hell Riot is going to create a new client for LoL. They hired a jillion Flash/Air developers this year

Unless something is a blatant copy I don't mind the recycling of good ideas. Blizzard cut its teeth doing what other developers had already done, only slightly different/better. DotA 2 is literally DotA, just better looking and with hats. Sometimes you want your mind blown, and sometimes you just want established ideas to be invoked/evoked. It's unfortunate, but because there are many soulless companies that will copy a new, innovative idea for the sake of being trendy the whole notion of reusing ideas tends to have a bad reputation, even though there's nothing inherently wrong with the practice. Just as with innovation, or anything else, it's understanding and execution which matter.

If it's fun I'll play it. I mean LoL is fun they'd likely try to make their next game fun too. As long as it isn't an MMO I'll at least try it.

Even icefrog was building upon what others had started. One of the frustrating things I find about dota2 is the unwillingness to innovate upon what is already there at this point. I'm not a big fan of purity for purity's sake. (Important Note - this does not mean I agree with every innovation/change in gameplay that Riot made - merely that I appreciate the existence of the innovation.) I am not in the least bit surprised that Riot is working on another game. As amazing for them as LoL is, they definitely now have the design, developer, and art talent available to them and the will to execute needed to branch out.

The persistent world is the AIR client. You earn in-game currency that is spent to increase your summoning versatility, or for "runes" which work like equipment in that they boost your stats. When you play on Summoner's Rift, you're on an instance of a dungeon with 4 or 9 other people, depending if you're doing PvE or PvP. if LoL could be considered an MMO it would certainly explain my "addiction" to it... ever since my terrible Guild Wars+Highschool years, I've sworn to never play a MMORP seriously ever again. Shit's to addicting, tried gw 2 but went back to LoL after 3 days, playing pvp way too fun than slaying mobs.

I don't agree that Ice has been doing things for purity's sake. Many traditional DotA players will use that as an argument to *justify* why Ice does something, but that rarely the only ostensible choice for Ice's design decisions. By and large, Icefrog actually did simplify and streamline DotA 2 where it actually made sense to do so. Anything he chose to leave "the old way" was either because there's actually a compelling reason not to do so, or because it would be such an enormous fundamental gameplay change as to ruin DotA 1/DotA 2 parity as far as balance is concerned.

League of Legends and Dota 2 are two completely different games. Sure they can share some features but it doesn't differ from MMORPG's. Same genre, some stuff can be identical (like masteries, classes, races etc.) but it doesn't mean it's a direct copy.
