No it's not, it delays his core by far too much. He has all 6 slots filled by 20min anyway, Chalice's a completely wasted slot. Ryze has 4500 mana and unless he spams all his spells on creeps he's never going to run out of mana before having to go back to base
This. If you wanted mres, you can just build Negatron Cape which goes into a Banshee's Veil or perhaps GA later on. With a Tear of the Goddess and Soraka, you'll never run out of mana.
Well, no. You'll still run out of mana with only tear and Soraka. Ryze was given no blue at all (which you normally get when you're Ryze mid), so he had to build something that gives tons of manareg.
Soraka's infuse is very overrated on APs, moreso on Ryze. While the manapool increase is noticeable on ADs with 300 max mana, Ryze eats through Sora's mana with half a basketball.
He might as well have gone for Catalyst, but in the end, both do the same thing, and he wanted to get (double) WotA + SV up asap. So while chalice doesn't build into anything, it's way cheaper, so he would have reached his goto build faster. Game ended even before that, though.
Chalice was not the problem, and in that position probably the right decision. Thing is, I don't see a way to build Ryze out of the hole NEB dug themself with their comp and bad engages.
Infuse is not overrated at all. Level 3 infuse is 60mp5....there is no way in hell you should have mana trouble with tear and mana runes on ryze in a soraka lane

Chalice is good, on any champion with mana, when:
- Your income is limited - You need MR - You could use twice your current MP5 effectively
I haven't seen the game, but if Ryze wound up significantly behind I can see why you could argue that the 900g investment beat out getting a Negatron or 2/3 of a Catalyst. Chalice is super under-rated and very strong, and it sells back strongly enough that I think it should be way more common than it currently is.
e: You can compare it to Spirit Visage, kind of, which is only now being used as an effective defensive source despite being in (or near) its current form for more than a year.

I love Moletrap, he was one of the first guys who got me into Broodwar (along with Klazart) but I don't really feel like his heart is in it for LoL. Haha... Now this Torch fella however, he is really good and seems like he knows what he's talking about where as my boy Moletrap is obviously really new to pro LoL.
