If you wanted mres, you can just build Negatron Cape which goes into a Banshee's Veil or perhaps GA later on. With a Tear of the Goddess and Soraka, you'll never run out of mana. | ||

He should have so much mana anyway with runes and cata that it really isnt an issue, he will run out of health way before mana. they also ran him in a soraka lane.....tear and chalice and soraka infuse....obscenely overkill on the mana. | ||

Ryze was given no blue at all (which you normally get when you're Ryze mid), so he had to build something that gives tons of manareg. Soraka's infuse is very overrated on APs, moreso on Ryze. While the manapool increase is noticeable on ADs with 300 max mana, Ryze eats through Sora's mana with half a basketball. He might as well have gone for Catalyst, but in the end, both do the same thing, and he wanted to get (double) WotA + SV up asap. So while chalice doesn't build into anything, it's way cheaper, so he would have reached his goto build faster. Game ended even before that, though. Chalice was not the problem, and in that position probably the right decision. Thing is, I don't see a way to build Ryze out of the hole NEB dug themself with their comp and bad engages. | ||
