Just thought of it... Maokai's ult damage reduction should also work on the shield from the new item, right? Philo->Solaris->Aegis Mao inc., never die from an engage in teamfights.

First of all, what you said is a retarted statement to make to begin with because you completely excluded any supports. If you jump ON her, chances are you just turned a 2v2 into a 1v2 in Cait's favor because her Taric/Ali will CC you, Sona will burst you, Soraka silence you+Heal Cait for armor, all before your support can react.
Cait's range wins this lane. Ez can't go for last hits without getting harassed (so he won't even think of jumping onto her at level 3 because he should be at a distinct HP disadvantage, Cait does not want to go near any bushes if she's against Ezreal, she can shove lane all day. If the Ez is super aggressive, just use your superior range to farm. Shouldn't be a problem though, with any decent support, Cait dunks on Ez.

Usually I just go even with Cait. While I can't be super aggressive against her, she can't against me either. If she steps away from her support or her wave, she's getting Q'd in the face and there's nothing she can do about it. Her Q is so easy to dodge unless you're dumb enough to step in a trap or run into her support's CC.
Once we get to that stalemate point, I just farm. I strongly feel that Ez scales better mid-to-late game than Cait, and is a much better skirmisher. I can also farm easily under either tower with Q+autos if need be.
The other thing is, I think Ez helps jungle ganks better than Cait. She has to wait for someone to step in a trap to help the gank along, while I can usually run up and burst to claim the kill, and escape ganks easier because Arcane Shift is so good.

Very strong ganks as you mentioned. His clear time is good, it just pales in comparison to Udyr/Lee Sin/Skarner.
Honestly, I only go Trundle if I know they will have a dedicated tank on their team. If I see Rammus/Galio/Maokai, I pick Trundle as jungler. You ult them and run at the AD carry, bite them, and start wailing on them until they run away or die.
If they don't I go Udyr. Udyr>Trundle with no tank on enemy team imo.

I like to pick him in arranged 5s when we forget to ban rammus and enemy team FPs him. He may not be a PERFECT rammus counter but still a good one.

Ez was always the classic "cait counter" from all top level players. You'll note he stopped being played when cait stopped being picked. I really hate people flaming someone over something that is highly debated as if it's general knowledge.

Trundle fucks up Shyvana "I'm diving because my ult makes me unkillable" with his "Well mine does too, but at the cost of your survivability". He brings a lot of utility too, especially in jungle fights, and his a bitch to counterjungle. He's not bad at it either, if you can avoid making yourself seen if you cast W while ninja-ing a buff.

re: ezreal. I don't really want to go into how good/bad he is in bot lane, but i can still tell you he's a monster solo laner, just like he used to be, so if/when ranged AD start shifting away from bot lane some of the time, he's gonna come back big time.

Morello keeps saying that ezreal is really popular in china and stuff. Does anyone know that is the standard lane set-up there? Do they follow the same meta or something else?
Ezreal can be easily send mid in some teamcomps. You can have your xerath go bot for example - his passive coupled with his range can be pretty awesome in coming out in trades.

He wasn't a Cait counter. He can just farm in lane because of the range on his Q. With proper positioning the lane still favors Caitlyn but Ez was capable of farming against a Caitlyn while other champions such as Ashe, Corki, or Vayne had difficulty farming against an aggressive Caitlyn in lane.
Cait has a harder time zoning Ez than other ADs because of Q harass and the fact that Ez can still farm with Q. But Ezreal is not a counter to Caitlyn nor does he win the lane and he especially doesn't shit on her as Noocta said.
Caitlyn is really strong early so most ADs just had to survive the beginning of the game without being fucked over. Almost every AD can survive that lane if they have a good support player and then when the lane phase is over you have an AD carry that's much stronger than Caitlyn simply because of how bad Caitlyn scales.
