In the case of Lilballz, I know he stopped playing entirely for a long period of time. I remember queueing up against him in normals to find out that he'd sold his account and the new owner chain lost down to 1400 Elo. So yes, it's pretty much guaranteed that he's playing worse after taking a break from the game (though he's playing again now on the Taiwanese server). IIRC the same is true of GJ and Scarlet--took a break from the game for a very long period of time. Naturally when they come back they're much worse than they were before. Not sure about Laoching and Saber, though I do know Laoching is still playing. FTW (Lilballz's new team in Taiwan) is going to be at WCG, I think, so we'll see how good he is now compared to how he was. A lot of the Koreans had to do their army service which is why they stopped playing.

It's obviously hard to compare across different times (evolving game/improving players/etc.) but at peak they definitely felt like a bigger terror. They abused OP champions when there weren't enough bans for them. Big difference. That's what literally every player in soloQ does, play the best champs available. Up until very recently there were only 4 bans so I'm not sure where you wanted to go with this. Loci is known most for his Morg, not exactly a weak pick(not saying he can't play others, obviously not true, but it's not true of the people you're apparently criticizing either). There have been very few people who climbed soloQ and stayed high playing a niche champ, Chu8 probably the only really memorable one. Pdiz! I dunno if Karth counts as a niche champ, though.

At the time not many people were playing Karthus, so I guess he could.

Hmm so SK is going to run ocelete as top and Moma as mid. Good descion because Moma can't do AP top at all. Though Ocelete top is going to be weird

The grid can be found here: http://www.esl.eu/eu/lol/masters/global_challenge_kiev_final/rankings/The biggest upset: SK and fnatic both did not manage to qualify! While SK lost in the very last series against Team Empire from Russia, fnatic screwed up in the first two pre-qualifiers and wasn't even eligible to play on Saturday. The three qualified teams: mTw.Absolute LegendsWickd - Bruiser Lyumi - AD Froggen - AP Wewillfailer - Support Kebap - Jungle Their Danish players Wickd and Froggen dominated their lanes respectively throughout the tournament. Lyumi played a beastly AD although people might remember him from being a very dominant bruiser for Team Germany. Add in one of Europe's best Supports and Jungles and you got yourself one powerhouse of a team. aAasOAZ - Bruiser YellOwStaR - AD Alth0r - AP Osaft22 - Support Linak - Jungle This team has three French players on their best positions: YellOwStaR, Linak and sOAZ played together for aAa and Millenium before and always had great success. The team gets complemented by Ex-SK/Sypher AP Alth0r and veteran Osaft22 who played for SK's WCG team back in 2010. EmpireAlexIch - AP Darien - Bruiser Genja - AD DiamondProx - Jungle GoSu Pepper - Support They played rather unorthodox lineups with great success. AP Malphite and Wukong top, Support Nunu bottom, Urgot and Miss Fortune bottom. They are an all-Russian team that decided to play on EU West to get in more and better practice. As it turns out it was well worth it. The fans in Kiev will love to cheer for a Russian team, that's for sure. A little reminder: The second US pre-qualifier for Kiev will happen this Saturday. Sign up here: http://www.nationalesl.com/us/lol/5on5/global_challenge_kiev2/signup/So far qualified for the US-final: 1. Team SoloMid 2. v8 eSports 3. CLG 4. Goose So hopefully we will see Dignitas, Epik etc. this weekend.
It looks like 4Deman casted most of em on his youtube channel. Do you have any recommendations for games to watch?

i don't know how you guys can put saint on your teams. whenever i watch CLG scrim, he's always the one arguing and he just seems like he has a huge ego. always makin trouble, i think he's holding back CLG by making the environment really unfriendly when the game isn't 100% ezpz.
|
Saint only argues with hotshot. But when people actually listen to his calls 100% and don't argue back they do really really well. He's a good leader and when you make a team you need that.

Yeah, I think if you look at the WCG qualifiers, I think both Hotshot and Saint make great calls when not in the presence of each other. Their personalities just clash terribly on CLG. Both see and understand the game quite well, but they just have different philosophies and styles when it comes to how to play.

Hotshot and SV always argue about in-game decisions. SV calls one thing, Hotshot another, the team gets confused and nothing good comes out of it. Most of the time, they probably would've been fine following either call, but because they often split up because of the confusion, they end up having unneccessary deaths, etc all the time.
I feel that if Hotshot or SV (either one really) could just let the other person lead the team all the time, they would do SO much better. Of course, they're both wrong sometimes, but they should argue about that shit after the games instead of letting it affect the game they're currently in.

As was addressed for the old players who took breaks and obviously aren't gonna be as good when they got back, I think most people will agree that jiji is just straight up slumping. It wasn't long ago at all that he was still super dominant, long after the other players had left or were just no where near as good as they used to be. It's not even that jiji is bad now or gets outplayed he just makes mistakes that he never made before. So in the case of jiji at least, yeah, he's slumping.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure saint is the biggest reason that CDE had a shot against Dignitas at WCG. Look at the series that they won, when they all listened to what saint said CDE 2-0'd Dignitas. Same goes for CLG in scrims. When everyone just does what saint says they do a lot better. Luckily Chauster is a lot less pussy on AP as well.

He's a good leader and when you make a team you need that. you obviously didn't watch the scrims last week. Hotshot managed to shut the hell up for about 3 games but Saint wouldn't have it. So instead he started bickering with Elementz. Saint has to argue with someone, it's just that Hotshot is 99% of the time the first one to argue back.

Elementz is garbage. So I fully agree with Saint! :>

Alternate vs. mTw, while heavily one-sided, was a great display of how strong the new team of Wickd is. Other than that the whole series of SK vs. Empire and SK vs. aAa was great to watch. Unfortunately I didn't catch anything of Sypher vs. Empire - gonna look for that now.
Regarding your complaint about the casters: No matter if Rivingten, Preak or Joe I often cringed at some of their analysis this weekend. Especially when they start thinking about comps (to which lane each hero will go and who beats who) it really shows how little they actually know compared to people who watch streams and scrims of proteams a lot. They also seem to lack the knowledge of what champions some of the players are especially good at...
Then again they know how to create tension and do great play-by-play commentary which is waaaay more difficult than analyzing picks or the game in general I think.

Currently their biggest problem is their lack of knowledge. They dont know what builds are, they dont know players styles, strong champs, or really even what decent teamcomps are atm. Like the biggest example was phreak saying that GP was gonna be a jungle yesterday, when it was pretty well known that jungleplanks sucked with the old masteries.
The other thing they do is analyze teamcomps INCREDIBLY poorly. Most of the time anyone with >1500 level knowledge knows what a teamcomp is geared towards, yet for some reason phreak et al are incapable of actually looking at comps, deciphering what they mean, and then putting together the scenario in which each team wins.
