Warning my english isnt that good.
For playing team coordinated games which do you think is better Skype or Ventrillo and why?
Ive used Ventrillo for awhile when i played WoW without much problems or fuss about it. But when sc2 came out I was forced to switch to Skype because some sc2 buddys preferred it. Now I find my self loving skype and refusing to use vent. Ive mainly been using skype for playing ranked 5v5 in LoL as I find it far better than ventrillo. The biggest diffrence at least to me is the sound quality between the two. Vents voice quality seems pretty poor compared to skypes taking account the microphone the person is using. I also just hate the push to talk key now when using ventrillo. Skype is pretty good at canceling unneeded noise and when Im playing a game not having to use a push to talk key helps me focus on what im doing.
All in all i think Skype is better for competitive team games mainly because of how well its manages to use nonPTT communication. What are your thoughts?

Vent can use non PTT if you want it too. Personally, I find Skype really annoying to use and use vent most of the time. But, if I had the choice I would prefer to use TS3/mumble.
|
I prefer mumble too.
Never been a fan of ventrilo and skype has an annoying interface and uses up more memory than it should.
|
There's literally no difference if you use the right configurations.
|
vent: push to talk and the channel system is nice
|
i have like all the voice chat programs installed all the different folks i play with use different programs(skype, mumble, ventrillo, teamspeak)
and skype is the worst imo
|
Mumble and Teamspeak are pretty much the best.

i fakin hate skype :D for the rest i dont care which to use, but mostly i use ts3^^
honestly i havent used skype in a long time, but when i did, it used like a bazillion megabytes of ram and made my ping bad, also it had a big delay between when u talk and when it gets to your mates.
|
Mumble is pretty solidly better than both...

I love skype. I dislike vent because of its push to talk (I know you can set it off, but it still delays) and its usual delay between talking (about 3-4 secs, even more up to 30 secs if you are unlucky -_-), not sure how anyone can play competitively using vent..
Also skype can be used for even more than playing games, you can IM people, and video chat. No problems with delays or anything. (Ofc if you have a bad comp it may be annoying for you to use)

LOL 3-4 secs on vent wtf. u run the server on a gameboy color?

If vent has thay much of a delay for you thats your own internet being shitty. Or your vent server is located in tibet in the mountains guarded by a celibate group of monks that dont believe in good internet connections and use a toaster for a server.

the people in charge of skype must talk to the facebook guys.
they keep removing functionality I like and calling it an "upgrade".
**** skype even though everyone I know who plays LoL uses it except my old CS friends.
|
I have no idea what the difference is. People are so insistent and elitist all I want is to be able to change volumes of people and set push to talk key =/
|
there is literally no difference for in-game purposes, but out of game it depends whether you hang with a gamer community (can more easily jump in another channel and chat), or if you leave skype up (to talk with your girlfriend or something) and you don't want a 2nd program open.
|
skype is for talking to friends vent is for playing games ^_^
|
I've always used vent, I really like the interface and how it functions in general. Mumble is probably better but I'm still going to use vent.

TS3 is the best. Gotta support TL!
Also Skype is a resource hog, and for people with shitty computers like me it kinda sucks.
|
Ventrilo. Skype only good if you have only 1 fixed team... and you can bear the inability to ptt. When i use skype i get paranoid. Can't fart in peace Ventrilo offers rooms, password protection, ptt optionally, broadcast across rooms etc for a bit of monthly cash. Not worth it for small scale use i guess.
I have no idea how people keep thinking ventrilo has poor quality when it offers a choice of the best codecs in high bitrate and khz. I'm currently using vent because my online buddies still have a HUGE server rented for their Lineage 2 alliance. Other guys i play with sometimes have a TS3 server. I feel like everybody sounds the same on that server, but its probably just poorly set up.

I don't like the lack of PTT on skype, and while I like the minimalist design of Ventrilo, I sometimes find that the options have really weird names. TS3's still my favorite voice chat program, even if the TL servers have been unstable lately.
