Silence is on a cooldown of 10 seconds, so wait for the 1.5 second silence to expire and then do all your damage, etc etc....

By then soraka's not gonna be in range to let you hit her.
In fact it's pretty pointless to fight soraka period. Just farm as much as you can and then eventually most AP champs will just clear the creepwave in 2 spells.

If you compare her silence (range 700), to the range of many other common casters, it's actually much shorter. Example: Brand's E is 675, his W is 900. Orianna's Q is 975. Malzahar's silence is 900, his E is 675. Annie is the most common mid champion whose ranges are all under 700 (they're all 675).
Not only does her silence get outranged by the damaging spells of many common casters, it also has a relatively short duration, so you have all the time in the world to farm/control the lane when it's on cooldown. I agree that it's relatively pointless to try to kill soraka since she l0l0l heals back up instantly, you'd be better off farming. However, my original point was refuting the commonly made statement that soraka can zone you away from farm, which I still believe to be completely false.

I think you're underestimating the usefulness of the +120 armor on ur carry. Not to mention the massive mres shred from starcall now. The silence is still a pretty strong counter initiation if u have fast reflexes.
I don't think she's by any means a top solo ap champ, but she's still plenty strong
