Having been unable to locate an existing thread for this purpose, I thought it might be fun to have a thread for folks to bring hero concepts and talk about them. This is obviously just for fun, so please nobody take it too seriously.

These are a few Starcraft concepts I've come up with; would love to see critiques in here! Click links for the full write-up!

Terran
SCV: Bill Brosquette (Melee Specialist)

The idea of the SCV is a lane-push specialist who pushes through creeping defenses... in the classic Terran way.

Like many Specialists, he is hampered by a limited teamfight presence; his autoattacks deal very little damage. To help counter this, his marines allow him to soak XP across the map, similar to Lost Vikings. He is also as tough as a weak warrior (like Sonya) and can keep in on the edge of a fight for a while, placing bunkers and widow mines to allow some area-control. His Z allows quick escapes.

There are two main build paths, one focusing more on utility and one more on lane pushing. The lane push build buffs Barracks heavily, and uses Bunkers as a pushing tool, taking Big Job, Huh? to allow more pushing and lane presence. The utility build plays a little more like a support/area-control hybrid, protecting allies with Bunkers and using zoning enemies with Widow Mines, eventually taking Run Outta Marines to inhibit enemy movement in teamfights.

Accessory talents allow adaptation to enemy build paths by taking defensive talents like Spell Shield or Block.

Firebat: Franko Tildon (Melee Warrior)

The Terran Firebat is themed around the renowned insanity of its operators.

It deals decent damage for a Warrior, at the expense of health. Between Stim and Clean the Dirt, it can attain extremely fast movement speed. Dirty Boy gives it the ability to lock down a high-value enemy in the beginning of a teamfight, while Perdition give the ability to peel that target away from the main enemy force.

Like many warriors, key build choices are often about DPS versus tankiness.

Science Vessel: Amerigo (Ranged Support)

The Science Vessel is an unusual Support hero. Like Tassadar, it shields allies instead of healing them. Like Morales, it enables strong autoattack damage from allies. But its ability to buff tanks' HP or add mana to allied mages is critical.

Generally, the Science Vessel has high potential in short-term engagements. Autoturrets block movement, Defense Matrix adds health to allies, and Hunter Seeker forces positional changes. EMP's silence can provide an edge, and Irradiate is a killer unless the enemy is effectively healed or takes no other damage.

The science vessel has a very low autoattack, and no mount that increases speed, making it vulnerable if ambushed.


Zerg
Zergling Swarm: Fenris Brood (Melee Specialist)

This concept is very much a work in progress, but I love the idea of a Zergling Swarm hero and am generally unsatisfied with most attempts thus far. Love to have feedback!

The idea is a very fast, fluid hero changing forms swiftly, dealing damage and clearing out.


Protoss
Dragoon: Fenix (Ranged Warrior)

The Protoss Dragoon, based on the legendary Fenix, is an unusually disruptive ranged warrior.

Unlike most warriors, his disruption and damage soak happen from the backline. His autoattacks have Nova/Raynor long range, and he prefers to avoid any hull damage (this damage is only healed, it cannot be regenerated).

His abilities are accordingly focused on controlling where the enemy can move. Multiphasic Beam in particular is a powerful anti-engagement tool. As a result, Fenix excels in poke compositions. He also has a niche in giving shield HP to heroes otherwise limited by HP drain, such as Illidan or Artanis.

Gimme the SCV! Although the repair function is already covered by other specialists/supports with the mule talent. You might want to change is into repair and rebuild.

- Repair and rebuild
Repair damaged structure at the cost of mana. Rebuild when the structure is destroyed. Rebuilding is only possible for towers and walls. Forts and keeps cannot be rebuild due their complexity. Rebuilded structures only grand 0.25 xp when destroyed again.

Glad people like the SCV concept.

My main concern with a builder-style hero is making sure the player always feels engaged. My aim was to make the bunker construction fill that role, even in combat, gettting across part of that "SCVs desperately trying to get the structure down" feeling.

We need more auras in HotS!

I enjoyed playing a lot of Paladin in Diablo 2, swiching between a vast amount of offensive and defensive auras. The auras is an area around your hero granting things like:
-% to block AAs
-Pulsating damage
-Slower sustainde damage
-Spell resistance
-Stun/disable resistance
-Extra movement speed
-Extra spell damage
-Extra AA damage
-Extra attack speed
-Vulnerability to enemies
-Healing...

The possibilities are nearly endless, and should make a very versatile hero with an unique team-oriented playstyle. The paladin should probably be a support hero, but with the possibility for very different talent-builds. Maybe even the game breaking Hammerdin could be fitted in there??

There are a few auras in game already:
Tyrande has Trueshot. (And if she were done properly as an AA-DPS, not this bs healey nonsense, it would be a huge deal). Brightwing has a heal aura. ETC has various aura-like effects. Arthas has a sort of damage aura. Probably others I'm not thinking of...

But an aura-focused Paladin or somesuch could be cool. I was imagining the Paladin done as a bruiser, not as support. Conjured hammers are a big part of the lore, though I'd imagine less of the spiral, since Jo already has a sort of hammerdin build. You'd get holy shock (or fire? but too much like fire devil. or freeze? too much like Arthas) as well as the usual paladin spells. Talents could give you various other auras for a few seconds depending on situation.

Another aura concept might be Duriel. Slows and damages nearby enemies (like Arthas but assassin damage) and can also charge, stun, and burrow.

Since Joh is way too much paladin, so i doubt they'll make another.

Aura: I like the concept of auras. really underlines the "team game" concept that heroes has.
Me personnally would love a pure support'ish hero , not with healing but with other support abilities, buffs and debuffs, MMO stuff ^^
Some sort of bard maybe? hihi Bard in WoW ^_^

Raynor's Inspire is kinda an aura
Tyrael's Sanctification and shields count as aura i guess

Lol. Pretty sure we already got a bard. And I still wish he had been Cairne. :-(

Another thought for the aura-based hero...

What about the Obsidian Destroyers from WC3? Apparently WoW had a named one named "Moam." Would be designed to counter mages with some auras, heal with others, replenish allied mana with others. Or something.

D2 paladins have a total og 20 different auras to chose from! 10 offensive and 10 defensive, including some pretty wild ones, like destroying nearby corpsed for health do your hero...

Johanna is a paladin, yes, but she does not have anything similar to an aura... Others heroes have it, yes, but I think there are plenty of space.

Both balancing and designing an auradin around the d2 character should be a pretty easy task!

Also, some hero doing self-damage for offensive benefits would be cool, probably some WOW Horde Warlock would fit the bill.

I'd love to see Gul'dan, presumably tied to the release of the movie or of Legion. He would be an obvious candidate for a hero with huge potential power, limited by self-harm. (Very in keeping with the character.)

I admit to knowing relatively little of WoW lore and what his abilties are in that (i assume he'll be a bossfight soon). WC 2 had him as a standard Death Knight (actually with somewhat lower stats), while WC 3 actually gave him no abilities at all.

This basically means his ability set has a lot of flexibility. But I demand green fire everywhere.

Kinda hilarious Deckard idea. Dat stun would be hilarious. Would love to see "sleep" effects in Heroes with Dread Lord etc.

Cocoon is a sort of sleep effect. But deckard cain with sleep disabled by just 1 hit on a spell would be good. Haven't seen one actually decent Deckard Cain proposal yet though.
