As there isn't a subforum for the game and I'm unsure of spawning new threads in the "Other Games" section, I can try to maintain a list of those from TL wanting to do cooperative team games in this post in the meantime, I guess? If you PM me (indicate if you want your identifier public) or post your bnet identification in a response, I'll add it to the spoiler below. I'd plan to do communication over Skype (not sure anyone else's communication preferences). This is nothing more than a custom map in the sc2 engine (from the looks, less fun than many old war3 custom maps) yet some how we're happy to see it and pay $15 for heroes, $15 skins etc. The SC2 custom map scene never took off like it did in war3 and the first decent map we get you have to pay for, lol. This is quite a slap in the face money grab. Thats the thing. You DON'T have to pay for heroes/skins if you don't want to. Its the samething in LoL. You DON'T have to do anything unless you want to.

By your logic almost every game out there is 'just a slap in the face money grab' since they are just like this game and essentially custom maps/mods.

Gazlowe and now Nova have been my favorite heroes, really satisfying to use those hero's abilities well.

Except 1.6/TFC/TF2/Dota2 are all completely and totally free. There are no locked heroes in Dota 2, all you can buy are cosmetics, tournament tickets, etc. Maybe you didn't get the reference but 'these days' referred to the gross micro-transaction models championed by shitty phone games, LoL, and now HOTS. And the fact that dota is a WC3 custom map is entirely my point. All this hots game is, is a sc2 custom map with gross micro-transactions. SC2 custom scene never went anywhere partly because it seems the community died out but mostly the bungled Arcade system of bnet 2.0. The first real custom map we get, and they nickle and dime it to death, ffs they're charging hero unlocks in an ALPHA.

Wut. Counter Strike is $10. TFC is $5. TF2 has item drops that are basically required to be "competitive", and require hours and RNG to get. Or you can pay for them, ALA HotS. Next time you try to make a "reference", make sure you have a clue what you're talking about...

Doesn't make any sense to have restrictions there and potentially missing out on a lot of feedback for heroes. This is most likely PR anyway, but I find it still strange to not have every hero available for everyone to show the game off. Same reason they didn't make everything free in Hearthstone beta. Part of what they're testing is whether or not people will pay to buy these heroes.

I don't know what CS/TFC is monetized now with steam but when the games were released all you needed to own was HL. You could buy HL standalone, CS/HL pack, TFC/HL. pack or HL bundle pack that included things like Blue Shift, Opposing Force and some other crappy mods. TF2 is a garbage game that was never built in a competitive mindset, I stopped playing 'professionally' early on before most items were even added so you could be right about how it works now. Dota2 still has the best f2p model and is completely and totally free. There are no heroes locked behind pay barriers, you get the entire game for no cost. I suppose I'm just salty with how poorly blizzard handled bnet 2.0, sc2, and d3 only for them to come up with these cheesy ass custom map that they want to nickle and dime you on. People will defend blizzard regardless so it's a pointless conversation anyway. Thousands and thousands of people will gobble up mediocre products and pay out the nose for them. Oh well.

TF2 with only the medic and pyro updates was amazing. The only problems I had with vanilla were medic vs scout and pyro vs soldier, both of which were fixed with those updates. Imo it's too confusing now with thousands of items, and vanilla servers have the vanilla imbalances.
