I'm also a little confused as to exactly how players are rewarded for kills etc, something about kill rewards being split among the team? Is it possible for one player who is doing well to become powerful enough to carry the team? (As in make good plays at the beginning to snowball themselves into a situation where they can win the game mostly by themselves.) Also how important are things like levels/items/whatever you get rewarded with in game for getting ahead. Can you get situation in LoL/Dota where one player (or team) is far enough ahead that they can start 1v2'ing opponents and winning, or will 2-3 coordinated players always be able to beat a lone player, even if he's really far ahead.
Finally, given how slow it looks just from watching, how much room is there for better players to outplay people? Would a more skilled player be able to (for example) go into a 1v2, kill one guy and then escape again, by outplaying? (dodging skills, baiting cooldowns etc) without the two players just totally derping? I'm curious because most of these kind of out-play situations in other games revolve around quickly catching people by surprise after they make a tiny mistake, and abusing that to get an advantage before they can react. But with how slow Heroes looks, I'd imagine those kind of plays would be a lot harder to make.
(And maybe we can talk about the actual game rather then just money zzz)
Well, you don't have individual exp, you have team exp, so all the members in your team lvl up at the same time so its impossible for one person to be super powerful and win the game by himself (well, unless he is really good, and thhat takes me to your other question:
Yes, it does have some skill involved, so you can outplay people. Also having different abilities (every hero has 2 ultimates for example but you can only chose one, but you can change it the next game) gives you more strategy.
I'm not sure about your first question

Have you even looked at the gameplay?
Grabbing Merc camps and winning the map objective win games a lot better than 5-man pushes. Especially since free and unlimited base TPs means you can split up to grab map points, and still 5-man to defend bases.

LoL is not pay to win at all.
You only ever need to master one or two team role and have the runes and some champions in each respective role.
My friend got to diamond V and while he has most of Champions, he only ever uses three or four.

Yeah. The three or four strongest.
Which have this magical tendency of being newer releases

I randomly got into alpha so played a bunch of games today up until level 9. It's fun but I worry about the depth to hold one's long term interest and I don't trust that actual depth would be there. For example, when I first got into Hearthstone, I played a ton of it since it was exciting and unsolved. Now I rarely play the game as I know all of the best moves for any given turn without thinking which just makes it super repetitive. Heroes of the Storm seems doesn't seem to offer enough options on its gameplay for it to not be essentially solved over time imo.
Of course, with an asking price of free, I'll play until I reach that point and I do find it highly enjoyable at the moment. Beyond the above, the only other main negative is that exclusivity means I have no one to play with. I feel that the game is better if one has real-time communication with at least one other person to coordinate camps / objectives with as often I feel I can't influence the game when my team-mates choose to ignore them. I may burn out facing too many coordinated premade groups and could see myself then putting off more playing until my younger brother gets access. Or maybe someone can make a looking for teammates thread for the alpha?
I do also find that the game can feel a bit snowball-y. I can't remember a time my team has made a comeback or that the other team ended up doing so. This may just be because the teams aren't generally evenly matched yet or perhaps that we are all playing an inefficient style where playing correctly will allow for such comebacks to occur. Has anyone seen a significant comeback in a game thus far?
My 2 cent quick opinions on what is, at its core, a quite fun casual game.

I'm trying to imagine what a high skill game would look like. Objective control is super important as people have said. Since towers have limited ammo, having buff minions and mercs constantly pushing lanes is more critical than ever.
Short review: fun, quick games with amazing art. Also concerned about long term appeal in terms of competition but I can definitely see myself coming back to it to play with friends or solo for a quick game.

There is a guide about getting to diamond 1 with only nidalee etc.

Funny, I'm able to buy every new champ on release without buying anything. I own 45/113 champs without paying a dime on them. Only thing I've bought is skins.
By the time you're able to play ranked, you'll have enough IP to buy whatever the hell you want too. You can't even play ranked without OWNING 15 champions.
There is no p2w in LoL whatsoever.

I have been watching the game a little this morning. I have just seen a game which was a complete swipe. Yet, at the end the winning team hardly had an advantage. There als arnt many things that allow you to gain advantage through skill (like last hitting for example).
These things make a little worried that its a bit of a Quidditch game. A player/team can do all the amazing things they want, but it doesnt really matter. The team that catches the snitch will win either way.
Am I overly worried?

I would probably try out this game for a few rounds when it is out. But this is probably a no-go for me. The business model for HotS is terrible.
500 gold per game? and there are are heroes that cost up to 10k gold? Good luck grinding.

500 gold per level, not game. Depends on the EXP distribution.

Some people really don't understand that grinding to unlock some options (heroes, skills, runes, etc) in a multiplayer game is not any more fair than having to buy those options. Your time is very valuable, you can make money and spend them, or you can receive money as a gift, or you can live in a rich family, or something. But you can only have so much time, humans are not immortal. In general, without going into details and comparing specific values, time is more valuable than money. While I'm certain that you could put a price on someone's entire life, you're right that time is a precious thing. However, for a game dev. who seems intent on a future driven by micro-transactions, Blizzard are clever in making it much more cost efficient to Pay 2 Win, than to Play 2 Win. A week of grinding in Hearthstone is less time-efficient than working ~4 hours and spending 40 bucks on 40 decks. The entire point of micro-transaction games is that paying money will get you the stuff faster. Yeah, I guess it's so "clever" of Blizzard to do exactly what Valve started with TF2 and continued with DotA, or what Riot has been doing with LoL since the very start. And naturally someone on this board would blame Blizzard for all of it. But dota is literally all cosmetics Until Pay2Win seasonal events. At least Year Beast was boring in general, just wait until they have a fun event behind a pay wall.
only year beast was nowhere near pay to win. if you know played some games u get more than enough ingots to go around with. i didnt pay anything and i got 30 mythical bloom boxes out of the event... the rewards were pretty strong so i dont know why you are entitled to get them with no effort whatsoever... this generation is so spoiled

These discussions always remind me of how salty my friend was because I was stomping him with Gon or Dr. Bosconovitch in Tekken 3. He didn't know how to get it and called me a cheater, good times. Only difference between '98 and games these days is that people are spoiled with wanting to have everything unlocked from the start ( SF4etc, DOTA, etc ) and if they aren't it's a crime if developers add options to unlock it with moneyz.
So I don't really care I get the pleasure of unlocking extra champions by playing and considering they actually let you unlock skin colors through quests I'm actually hyped. Tho it all depends on quality balancing of the prices and time invested by the developer and currently the $ prices feel a bit steep. No clue how long the in game currency farm is.
On a more serious note. This game looks fun to play because it's different enough from the massive surge of MOBAs that are currently in development or released. Dawngate and Strife as examples still look way too much the same DOTA/LOL/etc. I like that Blizz is actually doing something different with the genre.

If you dont know what heroes the enemies pick and you dont even know which skills the enemy have, i would call this having a bigger die and not strategy.

oops miss the mod note.
Anyway, the viewing experience is actually not that fun. I suppose this game is more fun to play rather than to watch
