Some heroes have transformation abilities. Like Tassadar can turn into an Archon, Tychus into the Odin, Illidan into demon-Illidan, Rhegar into a wolf (mount option), and so on.
Unless you mean skins. Which are cosmetic appearance changes.

Yeh that is what I meant thank you. What is the general thought on that? Does it add interesting micro interactions or decisions?

So even though I've been loving this game so far (picked up Tassadar after the reset, he's awesome with the double storm!) the performance is absolute, complete and total shit. Not much is to be expected of the Starcraft engine I suppose but god damn, I would've expected more with the specs I've got... This is with Physics, effects, reflections, lighting and shadows off/lowest. Rest is irrelevant because of complete GPU dependancy.
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/NgCCrHs.png) Kudos to Cyro for transforming my Fraps files into an actual graph.
I'm running i5 4670 @ 3.4Ghz, 3.6 boosted 8GB 1333Mhz RAM Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 Gaming OC'd @ 1530mhz.
That's unacceptable levels of performance from Blizzard. They REALLY need to better the engine. This is the exact same trouble as Starcraft 2 gives. I have the hardware and the monitor to hit high framerates and benefit from them, let me use it. Heroes is not that demanding of a game. (For comparison, LoL runs at ~500FPS on this graphics card/CPU, easily.)

I was having a problem where the game would keep disconnecting me and keep me 5 seconds behind permanently. Was able to fix it by doing a clean restart so it was probably some sort of process contamination, but damn was it annoying.

To be honest, I think it's something they did with the reset. I've been playing since February and I have never gotten less than 60 FPS on max settings. When the servers came back online last week I was getting 8-10 FPS and changing everything to low didn't help at all. They released another patch later that night, or the next morning... it's playable now but I still hover around 30 FPS, or about half what I used to get.
The servers themselves are incredibly unstable, too. Everyone seems to have lag issues every now and then since the reset. It definitely seems to be an issue on their end, though, so I wouldn't really worry about it too much cause there's likely nothing you can do.

No, this is one of a few major problems with the sc2 engine that dates back to at least 2011 (maybe 2010 or earlier) and you guys should definitely be bringing it to blizzards attention.
There's no use having 80fps if one third of your frames take 1/40'th of a second. It's literally better to just pace frames and play at 40fps constantly instead of wildly inconsistent 80 if it really comes down to that

Looking for people to queue with on NA! Hit me up @ ErikTheRed#1980. I have a mumble server as well.
I've only been playing for a few days but I have a moderate amount of experience in LoL/DOTA 2 and I think I'm getting the hang of things rather quickly. So far I'm really enjoying Uther and Tychus, but I haven't tried all the heroes yet.

Never be surprised that your awesome Computer is not awesome in a beta or an alpha :p . Just do your job and report performance issues. That stuff can usually only be fixed after you find the hardware that is being a diva.
|
The problem stems from the sc2 engine, if it gets more spotlight then blizzard can fix it for both, if it can be fixed at all

Alpha arrived today, im so happy :D especially after all this announcments.
About what ETisME is saying, yeah, the sc2 enginge isnt the best optimized thing, which can be bad for a f2p game that wants to be massively played.

I hate all of you that are in the alpha

So hmm my initial impression after like 3 games:
Jim Raynor is cool, as always. I like his skills. Valla is pretty . Usually I don't play with this kind of characters but since I had her because of RoS I tried it and liked her a lot. She has a lot of skill involved. Diablo sucks, or at least I don't like it that much which is a shame because he's one of my favorite characters. Nova is a pain in the ass. Its hard to see her, but its doable. But.. How can you hit her? Is it like in sc2 in that if you cast an aoe spell or something it hits her? Or is the no way to hit her while she is cloaked.
I was impressed at how much different this feels from Lol and dota. Even though I had watched streams of this I had never thought it was that different until I played it.
The game still lacks some things. Like a proper indicator that you are searching for a game (I spend like ten minutes in vain because I thought I had clicked search game when I did not. In both league and sc2 it appears at the top. I don't know why it doesn't appear the same way here.

As someone that doesn't play often, knowing each hero rotation I've going to have to play a few games of tard heroes is pretty discouraging and annoying.
There is no reason skills should be locked out, if you can't handle the spell options, you're likely too stupid for the game anyway. If they must have this retard bottleneck in place so that new players don't get confused, they should just have an OPT-OUT.
I'm not joking when I say the heroes being garbage until you unlock better abilities is one of the main reasons I haven't tried the game more. I don't want to play a few games with a bad hero just to try the real deal. It's obnoxious. Can you unlock them with reel moni though?

Is there still no way to get yourself into this beta without having to get lucky? Not sure why they still want to keep out potential paying customers.

Um, it is a technical alpha. Officially speaking, they're looking for testers, not customers.
While it's obvious that betas and even alphas these days have marketing purposes, the main goal is, theoretically, to test the game and find various bugs and glitches. They're limiting the media exposure quite a lot, inviting increasing but still small amounts of players, and so on. They're still far from actively looking for paying customers.

They are not limiting media exposure at all. See: BlizzCon, Twitch Streams.
I also think you can already buy stuff, although I think that could be wrong as I don't have the game.

Twitch viewership rarely exceeds 1000 viewers.
Also, up until recently, Blizzard was explicitly forbidding major tournaments. Only small-scale tournaments were allowed, with little to no advertisement, and no cash prizes.
BlizzCon is pretty much the only big tournament happening, and it's a tradition of Blizzard.
You are right though, you can buy stuff at the moment. It's something that has to be tested too, naturally. Arguably the most important part, on Blizzard's end.

I logged in yesterday for some Hearthstone dailies, and HotS Alpha was on my battle.net launcher.

Not sure if its just me, but my game randomly lags a lot during games. Dont think my internet/comp specs have anything to do with it
