So I'm not alone on thinking the development of this game is really slow? I've been playing since mid February and all they've really done is redo the UI and add a couple heroes. I feel like it should be progressing faster, and if alpha has lasted seven months then I hate to think of how long beta will be.

I don't know. The hype is pretty much gone already at this point so I guess there's really no rush to release it anymore.

I think the team working on HotS is fairly small, isn't it? Sort of like Hearthstone.

Although even Hearthstone's beta didn't last as long as this I think..

Yeah, it's a small team and they're more focused on the technical aspects than balance. This is the TECHNICAL Alpha after all, and once they get all the friends list stuff working, the queue system working, the reconnect system working, and any other bugs that pop up ironed out, it goes to Beta for mostly balance testing and new heroes, then to release.

In 2013 there were between 80 and 90 developers inside Blizzard working on the game. As of this writing, there are about 140 people working on Heroes of the Storm.


If this is true, more people are working in heroes, than on titan, before they started again with that.

During the alpha, they have added new heroes, new maps, new systems (artifacts and so, although they removed them), new levels, an reworked a lot of those systems including the interface.

But im pretty sure, thats not all they have, i mean, they obviosly have more heroes that aren't finished/or are waiting for something to release them, probably more maps and probably some other systems.

This was a technical alpha, and they are about to finish the technical aspect it seems, so now that i twill be in beta, i think we will see some more changes and new heroes.

Also, i expect a short beta, then and open beta and "release" more or less like what valve did with dota 2

I can see it going the Dota 2 route and just saying "Why bother actually releasing the game" and just leaving it in open beta for forever.

I was about to point out the team size but looks like you beat me to it.

I wouldn't count on alpha ending anytime soon. They seem to have accomplished some sort of milestone, but we're still missing a proper reconnect feature, draft mode, and replays (or more specifically the ability to watch them). Those are probably the three biggest technical hurdles.

I wouldn't expect a release for another six months.

My vote goes to Lili, although speaking solely in terms of winrate Nova would appear to be the worst.

Nova and Lili both have at least super niche uses. Nova strong in eraser comps and is the anti-Abathur/Murky when combo'd with Tyrande. Lili has an insane early game when in a duo/tri lane and for early all in comps is the highest sustain support.

Muradin can insec people if they just stand there and don't move?

I don't see how you could get stressed at all in Heroes, the couple of days of it I did play was really fun. Even when you lose its often a quick death as opposed to a long and drawn out struggle, the more your team sucks the faster it will lose.

Been watching more and more, and it almost looks (probably dont play like) a lot more like LoL than DotA... The type of abilities etc...

I found this game really bad because there's no gold so there isn't as much reaction to your opponent's heroes. It seemed like casual mindlessness but it was fun. Just not something you take home and chew on so it's not focused on my target audience.

Also the unit responsiveness was way worse than even DotA's.
I think in our modern age technology has evolved to become more addictive. The things that don't give us pleasure aren't used as much. Work was never meant to be fun, but doing it makes us happier in the long run.

Fun for few games, but it gets boring very easy. With the very limited hero pool that you need to spend money to buy, to the simplified gameplay, to no denies, no gold, no items, etc... its just too basic and stripdown to have longevity.

Its also pretty slow to start with the forced limitations on you and stuff, so by the time you start enjoying it in the 4th match it gets boring by the 6th match.

Ultimately their business model is terrible, $20 dollars for just new cosmetics, $15-20 for a mount, $20 for new heroes, those are insane prices.

In Dota 2 you can purchase complete sets for heroes for only $2-3 dollars and the super high quality ones go for mostly $8-10 dollars. Only the arcana or super rare items cost more and its mostly bought by collectors.

They're taking a lesson from LoL that you can charge a ton and still make money. After all sets for diablo and WC3 and mounts went for thousands. Magic players spend upwards of $300 just to have a full collection of dual lands. People spend upwards of 200$ on hearthstone to get all the legendaries and then proceed to suck balls and win when they drop Rag *mumble mumble*.

LoL sells champions for $7? and legendary skins for $14. Regular ones for ~$7.
Some champions are old and cost less or rarely go on sale, but yeah... I have friends who have over a dozen skins and in the lol subforum it's clear that a lot of money is spent to support Riot which in turn supports the pro scene.

Been playing a couple of hours of this every couple of days since my first post here a while back~~~~

Is there a MMR system in place that factors into match making? How can I measure improvement in this game?
I might be the minority on TL, but TL is the minority everywhere else.
