I know that reference has already been made, but eh =/

Apparently like 6 possible cases in USA since last night.

Oh yay now we get to hear the media blow it completely out of proportion like they did with the avian bird flu.
This epidemic is very very minor at this point. But news is slow and news stations just love covering this kind of crap.

LOL HEY GUYS THERE'S THIS EPIDEMIC GOING ON IN MY TOWN, AND IT'S SPREADING! I MIGHT DIE LAWLZ!
|
Update, The epidemy has advanced towards Monterrey and Guadalajara (my city), there has been 1 death reported in monterrey and 3 possible cases that are critical in Guadalajara, classes have been suspended in the 3 biggest universities in Guadalajara including my own :S, this shit is spreading fast!
Also there have been deaths in other 5 states in Mexico: San Luis Potosi, Oaxaca, Baja California, Mexico City; State of Mexico, Monterrey.
Lets see how this evolves.

As long as you're not elderly, HIV positive, an infant, or child you'll be fine

according to that google map tracker thing there were a few cases of this a month ago close to where i live in which a 10 and 8 year old recovered in a week "uneventfully". so yeah im not too worried.

We're screwed. Five cases where reported in a very important state fair, to wich half the country assists from almost every state. It means it could spread dramatically. The fair was of cource closed now but the damage is done.

The virus has been affecting young adults. Which is why officials are worried.

Yeah, most deaths have been in the age group of 20-40 years old, which is pretty young to me because thats the majority of labor force at least in Mexico, the goverment has installed various small sized mobile laboratories throughtout the affected areas in an effort to diagnose and treat this disease quicker... Hope it works!

It's spread to where I live, I hear
EDIT: Apparently someone I know is mildly infected...
|
supposedly there were two cases confirmed here last week in san antonio on the east side in cibolo and the school has been shut down for a week over there, hopefully doesnt spread and shut down UTSA semester is almost over!

Getting the flu sucks, but nothing to "fear".

damn this is kind of stressful and a little scarey. hope all in mexico are ok and i wish all to be safe

Abit scary yeah, but media sometimes blow things out of proportion and I believe that the world is pretty ready for this kind of "mild" virus, its not close to as dangerous as the birdflue was atm.
Unless it mutates soon and becomes more deadly I don't think we have to worrie about it so much. But I wouldn't want to be in mexico right now.

As crazy as this sounds, in 1918 when the spanish flu was going around most fatalities occured in the 20-30 age group, hitting healthy young individuals the hardest. This was partly because of the war time conditions (lots of young men packed in boats in port cities) and that the immune system response in a stronger person was so powerful it would end up killing the individual, not the virus. Young healthy people died because they drowned in their own mucus and antibodies produced to fight the flu... oh the irony.
EDIT: I read about it in The Great Influenza by John M. Barry, great book.
