Ehm Africa? Are you crazy

Malaria, yellow fever, dengue fever, cholera, TB and a shitload of other diseases which pretty much doesn't exist in the "western world".

There is a lot wrong with your statement. The reason people that go to Africa get a load of antibiotics and immunizations is to stop things like Malaria and other crap you stated.

Most of those diseases can be avoided if you do simple things like boil your water (cholera), live cleanly (malaria), and take the damn immunizations (yellow fever). TB is TB, that stuff is everywhere.

I still don't advocate moving to Africa though

Yes most (if not all of those diseases) could easily be fixed with the right antibiotics and immunizations. And if alot of western people would be forced to move to Africa I'm sure the problems would be fixed really fast but that wasn't the point of StarKillers post (atleast what I made of it) because if alot of western people would move to Africa there would be no point in going as it would be exactly the same as here.

What I understod from the post (which I'm sure was a joke but lets put that aside for now) was that a few would go to protect themself from the possible influenza epedemic and then it's far from certain you would have acess to the right or any antibiotics.

Didn't realise that TB was so widespread. It's extremely rare in Sweden something like under 400 cases a year and nearly all of them is "imported" meaning that they cought it somewhere it's common and brought it back here.

To stay on topic it seams that the reported cabincrew on the flight from mexico didn't have the swine flue.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2009/apr/26/swine-flu-outbreak-mexico-pandemic

"In London, tests showed that a member of cabin crew on a British Airways flight from Mexico City did not have swine flu. The man, who has not been named, was taken to hospital yesterday with "flu-like symptoms" after landing at Heathrow.

A hospital spokesman said: "I can confirm he does not have swine flu. All the tests have come back negative.""

Well, i keep hearing from experts in CNN Spanish that tamiflu really doesn`t help that much because this is a new strain and therefore not something against we have a specific treatment right now.

A few new cases in different parts of the US have been reported now, also a couple people in France who recently returned from Mexico are reportedly infected. Seems to be spreading human to human too...

traditionally. there are no treatments for viruses.
just keep your immune systems strong. eat healthy. take Eccinacia and Astragalus in alternating 2 week cycles. if you get it, chances are much better youll be one of the survivers with a strong immune system. btw eat health mostly means sugar, sugar is like bottom line the worst thing you can eat for your immune system.

I predict that every continent has infection cases within 24h from now.

Currently it's N.C.S.America, Europe, Oceania. Only missing Africa and Asia and you have a global world wide pandemic.

-Edit: now confirmed cases in asia...

I'd recomend this blog to anyone who wants a source of more information on swine flu.

http://scienceblogs.com/effectmeasure/

Lot's of interesting info. For example it highlights the curious observation of "the stark contrast between the clinical and epidemiological picture in Mexico and the US, with reported Mexican cases winding up on ventilators and dying with severe lower respiratory disease while US cases have been mild with uneventful recoveries."

I've found it to be reliable in the past on other health issues. My only worry about this blog is that it could be anyone who writes it. The about section claims that "The Editors of Effect Measure are senior public health scientists and practitioners. Their names would be immediately recognizable to many in the public health community. They prefer to keep their online and public lives separate to allow maximum freedom of expression."

Yeah an ex-girlfriend grew up in africa and apparently even if you get vaccinated (or whatever) against malaria you still "get" it and it fucks you up a bit. This was in the 80's so maybe there are better stuff now. Also her sister got some weird amoeba or some other intestine bug and still have problems maintaining weight. Africa is no joke.
I have the best fucking lawyers in the country including the man they call the Malmis.

Deadly swine flu outbreak 'can't be contained'

The strain of swine flu is suspected of killing as many as 60 people in Mexico.

The US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says an unusual new flu virus has spread widely and cannot be contained, as the World Health Organisation urges governments to be on the alert.

"It is clear that this is widespread," the CDC's Dr Anne Schuchat told reporters.

"And that is why we have let you know that we cannot contain the spread of this virus."

The strain of swine flu is suspected of killing as many as 60 people in Mexico and infecting thousands more.

It is a new strain, and therefore poorly understood. The World Health Organisation (WHO) says it does not know the full risk yet.

The organisation has held an emergency meeting to discuss the outbreak.

Its director-general, Margaret Chan, says the deadly new form is serious and does have pandemic potential.

"It has pandemic potential because it is infecting people," WHO Director-General Margaret Chan said in Geneva.

"However, we cannot say on the basis of currently available laboratory, epidemiological and clinical evidence whether or not it will indeed cause a pandemic."

The WHO is advising all countries to be vigilant for seasonally unusual flu or pneumonia like symptoms among their populations, particularly among young, healthy adults who seem to be the most affected in Mexico.

The CDC's acting director, Dr Richard Besser, says it seems humans are transmitting the virus.

"There are things that we see that suggest that containment is not very likely, in that we are seeing cases in Texas and we're seeing cases in San Diego without any connection between them, which makes us think that there's been transmission from person to person," he said.

The Mexican government says there will be a mass vaccination campaign, and in the meantime it has closed all schools and universities.

CDC officials are assisting public health authorities in Mexico to test additional specimens and providing epidemiological support as part of a WHO team.

The centres have also dispatched teams in southern California, where several cases were reported.

Health leaders in the US, Mexico, Canada and at the WHO say they are communicating frequently, and state and local US health authorities are conducting investigations.

There is no vaccine to protect humans from swine flu, only to protect pigs, according to the CDC.

Dr Schuchat says measures are being taken to produce a vaccine against the virus if necessary, but cautions that it usually takes "months" to produce a vaccine.

"We're not going to have large amounts of vaccine tomorrow," she warned.

Looks like the quarantine isn't working. Hopefully it'll stay isolated for long enough that they can make a vaccine.

"Living cleanly" does not stop malaria if you live in Africa. It's not as simple as a pool of water in your backyard.
