丁寧語 and 尊敬語 and 謙譲語 my guess from my japanese studies is that sumnidah fits in the 3rd category, i.e humble language. If you watch the drama Dae Jang Geum (which i would highly recommend) you'll see this sort of language put in use as it set in 1500AD in the Korean royal palace. while ~yo fits in the 2nd category (honorific) etc etc | ||

it's the polite formal form to end a sentence, whereas "yo" would be the polite informal form. | ||
