oh man, mensrea, i think i just came a lil i absolutely agree with the man but to put it in a simple words us folk use, Powell is a douchebag. Yes he says the right things but i absolutely believe that his endorsement is indeed racially motivated. A key figure in Bush's apparatus of doom, suddenly a democrat endorsing liberal? Surely people change, but allow me to remain skeptical. well that and jumping sinkign ship obviously.
Ah but mensrea you missunderstand. Me and probably most non americans spontaneous appreciation after the shown video was due to the things he said in the video. Compared to the mindless idiots at the mccain rally he did indeed seem like a beacon of intelligence in a party that sorely lack it. That said I must admit, embarrasing as it may be, that I had never heard of him before now. Your post and a couple of google seaches later and I can agree that he is not one to look up to.
Does anyone know when the results will start being reported on CNN? Do they have to wait till the last state's voting has closed? I may have a meeting on the night of election (that's the morning of the 5th where I am) and I really want to watch the results...

Why can't he endorse Obama? One can be CONSERVATIVE without being a REPUBLICAN, just like in the UK, one can be a SOCIALIST without voting for LABOUR.
I think Powell has been very clear that though he is voting for Obama because he agrees with his policies and disagrees with John McCain, he still considers himself a conservative. In that sense, he is no different from the millions of Republicans the Obama campaign is trying to reach, sometimes successfully.
It is precisely because people can change that political parties fight so hard to reinvent themselves. Otherwise the young would still not turn out to vote, registered Republicans would continue to vote blindly for Republicans, white men would all vote for John McCain and white women would all vote for Sarah Palin and Obama would lose by a mile.
And just for the record, I am not a big fan of Colin Powell, but I have to give him credit for his undoubted ability and intellect.

Not nearly as fun as watching the numbers come in... =P And it wouldn't be nice for me to keep checking my mobile in the middle of the meeting.

We're hosed, guys.
Strange comment. The United Kingdom has many problems but none of them can be traced to legal prohibitions on owning dangerous weapons, which is what I assume you are referring to.

but he was a key figure in republican party, a very shady figure too.

what else do you expect him to say? im voting for obama cos he is black? well, really, i guess its not racially motivated but what im trying to say is that he is endorsing him for all the wrong reasons. Jumping ship, or trying to make himself look like a hero(hey, look at this thread- its working)

stronger men have fallen to a republican party grip. Look at McCain, find his speeches from 10 years ago. Find his speeches from primaries. Find his speeches from 2 month ago. And look at the crap hes spewing now. McCain is a very distinguished man but somehow this bunch of retarded republican monkeys that run his campaign make him say stuff that makes no sense. Rant about republican monkeys in + Show Spoiler +
Same with Sarah Palin. I dont think shes actually stupid. I mean really you dont become a governor by being dum as a rock. Its just whenever she says something that makes sense media goes "isnt that what obama says?" and the republican douchebags go "say something dumb, dont sound like obama!" If McCain were to run his own campaign he would undeniably win.
And just for the record, I am not a big fan of Colin Powell, but I have to give him credit for his undoubted ability and intellect.
smart folk can be evil too you know. I guess that was the point of why i said what i said- dont cut him any slack.

Why do people even speak when we are full of internet geniuses that can explain why they do everything...
