Yes, we know now that the intelligence was flawed, but Powell didn't know that at the time. The My Lai Massacre was the mass murder of 347 to 504 unarmed citizens of the Republic of Vietnam (South Vietnam), almost entirely civilians and some of them, women and children, conducted by U.S. Army forces on March 16, 1968. Some of the victims were sexually abused, beaten, tortured, or maimed, and some of the dead bodies were mutilated
Powell was a Major who tried to cover it up. Maybe it wasn't a genocide, but it wasn't much better. He was also involved in the Iran-contra affair. This is not a man of outstanding moral fiber.

Good thing no one else ever did anything bad in a war, I guess? I'd rather listen to someone like him than almost any other Republican.

I dont get it, you say im the Kings of morons (besides rpf) but you fucking agree now that Powell is a fucking scumbag who sold his soul to the Bush administration??? thats what i implied in my post you idiot.

No, you made another ridiculous and unsubstantiated post about how terrible America is, as if Powell's endorsement somehow reflects Obama's policy decisions.
I'm quite positive you don't know how to spell 'My Lai' let alone have any understanding of what the massacre was.

He covered up an atrocity. Like mensrea said, he didn't step down from SoS out of courage, he got fired and now he wants to "clear" his name.
He may very well have been a great general and capable SoS, but he's not the saint or hero people portray him as.

What I think is relevant about Powells endorsement, is the reasons for them. They are similar to Buckley's reasons for endorsing Obama. The republican machine has brought us 2 Bush terms, a war, the patriot act, a severe diminishment in the level of open democracy of our government... I mean you could write books upon books about the sinister accomplishments of the right over the last 8 years. McCains campaign falling apart, and republicans deciding to endorse Obama are signs that the republican machine is falling apart. It has crippled this country and I hope its demise will force the republican party to redefine itself into something half way respectable.

its obvious that obama will win, but i don't really like obama.
his policies are not very good and are overly-centered on the people on a short-term basis compared to McCain's..and both of their economic recovery plans are really dumb, not workable and short-term..
Obama will be a great president in a sense he would be more American and be more pro-american than prowhite/black. but i really cant see any good in any of his policies..
i think McCain would just be another Bushie.
lol..?

How can you say that ?! The man wants to rebuild the basic infrastructure that consolidates the basis of a future.
Education, Healthcare, Foreign Policy thro diplomacy.
If you think his proposals for education and healthcare are lame thats one thing, but to say that it is short-term is completely retarded.

Then you have low expectations of your leaders. That's your prerogative, but don't whine when the consequences come home to roost.

they don't lack it. Its their strategy to ignore and deny it. has worked the last 8 years.

I never said I "admire patriotism". I said I admired "[Colin Powell's] patriotism". As I've said, his patriotism is misguided and he is, in my eyes, a deeply flawed figure. But he is without doubt a good soldier.
Remember though that being a "good soldier" basically means he is unfit to take the reigns of leadership in a modern democracy - at least not those that behave morally (and not just when it's expedient to do so).
Being a good soldier also didn't seem very persuasive as a defense during the Nuremberg Trials.
Like I said, Powell is a deeply flawed figure.

What Powell said is just common sense. It's basically that Mccain Palin is unacceptable for obvious reasons and that Obama is better than them.
America, you are not a democracy when you only have ONE sane option. Obama is being "forced" upon you because he is the only candidate that makes sense. Even people who are of opposite beliefs are forced to accept him since there is no one capable on the other side. In a country with the best educational institutions and so many brilliant people it looks very very fishy that it all culminates to Palin vs Obama.
From the outside it honestly looks like this election was manipulated. It seems like someone wanted to make sure the Democrats win no matter what.

blame the dynamics of conservative politics and cultural warfare for that.
