Close your eyes and count to ten when you would normally go on a rampage.

Sounds elementary, but works because you can't look around the room for things to break when your eyes are closed.

This could work.

I should clarify, I have no idea who it belongs to, so I really don't care. For all I know it was a complementary thing that came with one of our cars. It belongs to someone in my family, and if they don't notice it missing, I really don't care (plus we have like three more, so it's not that big of a deal anyway). I normally do replace people's things though.

Yeah, I read that and realized how big an asshole I sounded like. I broke a coleman-type chair (like one you'd use for camping) after the Broncos lost the 2005 AFC Championship. I also broke my hand... It wasn't the best day for decision making.

I have one, and generally speaking, it's too far away for me to use it when I get mad. Normally I'll explode in the area I get angry in, and then it's done. If it's something that really irritates me for a long time, I'll take it out on the heavy bag. That doesn't change the fact that I'm negatively using that energy, though. That's what I want to change is the way in which I handle the anger. Hitting a bag, while better than putting holes in walls, is still handling the anger in the exact same, destructive, way that I've been doing things.

I used to have big anger problems, the best thing to do is to really look at things objectively.

That's what I did. Just analyze everything logically. Understand the anger complicates situations and will not benefit you.

It's hard to get that ball rolling.

The problem is not that you're angry at all, the problem is not that you can't control it so well, the real problem is that the level of your anger stands in no relation to the reason behind it. But you might know that already.
One possible solution lies in changing your eating habits. What are your current eating habits? How much sugar do you eat/drink? How often per week do you eat vegetables? Are your drinks carbonated? How much pure water do you drink every day? How does your bowel movement look like, is it well formed, compact and dark or not?
What about sports, are you doing any?
Do you get enough sleep? At what time do you go to bed? Do you have sleep disturbances?

All those questions and many more can have an effect on your level of anger.

Buy a drum set.

Edit: Actually, come to think of it, I think I remember you mentioning in some other thread that you were a drummer. Or am I wrong?

I used to have a problem with anger in relationships. The obvious thing to say is to just chill out, but the problem with that is when you're angry, you can't chill out. That's the definition of anger. To stop being angry is the end, the problems is in finding the means. Stuff like what BlatantYork posted only sounds good in theory. It's hard to put into practice. There are practical things you can do to deal with anger that isn't just philosophical. Some stuff I did:

1. The most important thing if you find yourself getting angry is to surround yourself with people who are very positive. Cup half full people. People you can have fun with, and who are willing to deal with your anger, and that you're not going to direct your anger at.

2. Do something that you enjoy, and do them in a fashion that's not demanding on yourself. If you play starcraft, do some 3v3 BGH and play slow. Enjoy the game. Abuse some newbs, but don't play iCCup and get all frustrated because some pimply korean 13 year old zeal rushed you 3-0. Watch a movie, listen to some music. Whatever. Just get your mind off of whatever it is that's bothering you.

3. I don't know if your anger stems from relationships, but if it is, it's important to avoid the people you're angry at. If you see them, run away. This helps keep the anger from being reinforced, but it also keeps you from damaging that relationship, which it will. (ughhhhhhhh memories)

4. Try to figure out why you're angry. You're not just angry because it's snowing or raining or whatever. That's just an outlet for something else usually. It could be relationships, or just stress. If you can, deal with that thing. If it's something you can't resolve, like a breakup, avoid the things that are causing the hurt and surround yourself with positive, fun people.

Whenever anyone tells you to use some technique or trick or outlet for self-control, they're giving you bad advice.

1) Understand that there are no tricks.
2) Understand that you can control yourself.
3) Understand that giving in to your impulses feels good, and that's why you choose to do it.
4) Choose to control yourself anyway.

Definitely wrong.

Eating habits are not the greatest. I have vegetables probably three times a week. Sugar isn't that high. I try to avoid pepsi/drinks like that. I drink a lot of water. Bowel movements look normal. Not real dark, not too light. No sports, I try to go to the gym though. My sleeping schedule is completely fucked right now, bed time ranges from midnight to 7 a.m. 7 a.m. is really rare though, anything after 2 isn't really that common. No sleep disturbances unless I happened to get drunk that night/I'm at someone else's house and they have pets. (I'm allergic to practically all of them.)

I don't think good is the word to describe it. It's something so much better than that.

There's a little leprechaun in each of us. As we grow, so does he, he grows impatient, willing to get out and has started manifesting himself in you. Wait and the leprechaun will eventually calm down, realizing that the both of you can only live in peace.

I'm the same way as you. Little shit will irritate me, especially vidya games. I feel the need to hit something or break something. Most of the time its no ones fault but mine, but I still get soooo fucking angry at myself. I've broke my closet, put a hole in my wall, broke the downstairs closet, and did other stuff. I just can't do anything else to make it go away other than hitting or breaking something.

Video games get me the worst. If I get mad AT someone else, it's easy to solve. It's really when I fuck up that I get really mad.

I usually hit something I know i won't break until my hand hurts (pillow/wall etc.) and if I'm really worried about it I'll play guitar, but obviously that doesn't apply to most people. I found Xbox games irritate me the most (I play lots of NFL, CoD and DoA4 and I get the most rattled from those). I usually only play those now with what I call a stress releiver (ie my dog on my lap, my girl is over, my little sister is playing with me etc.). Because I get the most angry when I'm on my own.

Here's my ten step guide to controlling anger:

1. I ask a question, why?
2. Then I consider the answer to my question.
3. I formulate alternatives to my answer.
4. I pick the new answer based on three criteria:
.... a) Who out of my options do I despise the most?
.... b) Who is closest geographically?
.... c) Whose heart would i rather eat while it still pumps after i rip it from their chest.
5. I formulate a plan to get the answer to my original question alone and in a dark corridor.
6. I gut the fucker like a pig.
7. I thrust my hand into his chest cavity remove his heart and eat it before his eyes close.
8. Now I reflect on this man's problems and consider three things:
.... a) What was my problem again?
.... b) Was my problem worse than this man's problem?
.... c) Where can I stash the body?
9. I find a good location for the body.
10. I stash the body and leave the darkened corridor.

But in reality, I'm a jovial sort. I laugh at my mistakes and those caused by others. Then I try to learn the best I can from them.

There's a simple solution. First, kill terran's nat and all tanks in PvT while you have 3 running expos. Then, die in 30 minutes to vult and drop harass (it takes a LOT of shitty play to lose in such as situation, not just one mistake). Then, the trickiest part, force yourself to say "gg". I'm calm as fuck in games now, but I admit that it was hard to sleep that night.
