50 Cent, Eminem, Prince, and so on. It's not just a gamer thing. Somewhat related, one of the trippiest things I've ever experienced was when I saw a Korean exchange student and asked if she knew who "Lim Yo Hwan" was, to which she said yes and was completely stoked that an American knew about him. She mustered together enough of her limited English knowledge to ask me how popular he was in America, to which I replied that serious gamers knew about him, although I'm not sure if she understood me. Unfortunately I suck in social situations so I wasn't able to take advantage of my easy in with a hot Korean girl. I suck. This happened a few years ago, I wonder what I'd do now.

Now I don't really care, but for us bilingual gooks it's a bitch to remember a progamer's real name and ID name.... but you want to know what's even more of a bitch? The fans from FiFo forums take a step further and refer to the players by their fan-given nicknames. Anyone know who the hell "Ahn-shim" (안심) is? or "Kong" (콩)? + Show Spoiler + July, YellOw

I'd be reading the same reports from OSL or MSL yet I wouldn't know it cuz FiFo would use their names and TLnet would use their nicks. I met my best-bnet friend IRL like 4 years ago (amazingly, we lived only 10 minutes away from eachother) and we were talking shit about other bnet people in his car, and it was awkward referring to people like, "So what's up with FatTemplar31, isn't he bla bla bla..." Just tooooo geeky. Also, after Brandon and I met, it was like, we rarely used online handles even while gaming, unless speaking by reference to a 3rd person. How does it goes down when TL people meet eachother? Everybody knows the names of the high-profile members, but you guys don't go around saying "Decafchicken is ordering pizza, semioldguy, can you pickup some beer?", do you? Just weird..

And on that note, if you wanted to use a shorter version, is there a polite way to do it? Would you call him Yun? Yun Sung? Or would it be something else? Or is it rude to not use his whole name if you don't know him? I don't know anything about Korean names.
