Here's to more shootouts and the first Ace since Vietnam.

Seems to be a few since then. Russia even claims one in the current Ukraine war.

Yep. Gotta get above the floor to get a good shot at something far behind the contact line but doing so makes you a target to Russian anti air. High risk. Still, F-16 can fire and redeploy more quickly than a patriot so it’s better than anything else they have.

According to the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, during the fighting in Ukraine, Lieutenant Colonel Ilya Sizov "destroyed 12 Ukrainian aircraft (3 Su-24 aircraft, 3 Su-27 aircraft, 3 MiG-29 aircraft, 2 Mi-24 helicopters, 1 Mi-14 helicopter) and two Buk-M1 anti-aircraft missile complexes.[46]

Maybe he dropped a bomb on a hangar where they were being repaired?

Well they actually jump off the wings of the fighter and do a 360 no scope while the fighter does a loop-the-loop and catches them

That would be way more likely. Unfortunately the source of the wiki entry is paywalled

Some interesting info: in 2022 Ivan Krastev (Bulgarian political scientist) gave an interview for Newsweek where he said that Putin isn't interested in any territorial gains. What he needs is people and that's what this entire war is about. Putin has a demographic obsession and is certain that to survive in the modern world Russia needs Ukrainian men and women. He wants to unify Ukraine and Belarus with Russia, but mostly he wants to destroy their nationalities and get an injection of "ethnically and culturally proper" people into the Motherland. According to the Russian elites it's the last hope for Russia because otherwise they're facing a cultural revolution as the number of ethnically native Russians is dwindling while the Muslim population primarily from Central Asia and Caucassus is on the rise.
In a twist of fate though the war is potentially making the situation worse for Russia since they've lost a lot of young men of their desired ethnicity and culture either on the front or due to them fleeing the country.
He also gave a bit more insights into Putin's mind in Der Spiegel.

The changes will be so significant that the regime will have to change in order to survive, just as will happen in Europe as well. Our economy will change, as will our understanding of freedom and democracy. Already, the media has changed in order to fight the disinformation coming out of Russia. That will have consequences. [...] Because of the pandemic and this war, the state again plays a larger role. In the pandemic, it was the welfare state that cared for its citizens and kept them alive. In this war, it is the security state that doesn’t just protect its citizens, but could also demand something from them: Namely, the readiness to make sacrifices. A friend of mine works at one of the biggest business schools. I told him: Everything you are teaching is useless. Just as useless as teaching socialism studies was in 1990. The world of globalization and free trade, in which the economy was only interested in bottom lines and not in politics, will be over. We don’t know what will happen in Russia after Putin, or in Europe, which currently finds itself in a romantic phase. But we shouldn’t make the same mistakes as in 1989. Back then, we thought the East would change dramatically, but not the West. Now, Russia is going to change dramatically. But so will we.

Not sure if intentional criticism by superimposing the tsarist imperialist iconography on the Russian flag or accidental self own?

Some guys are supposed to have killed like 300 germans or something. You add the numbers of their top snippers and really it sounds like 12 guys won Stalingrad by themselves.
Propaganda kill numbers is a tradition in Russia and have been for over a century.

Thats the current presidential standard of the Russian Federation in the presidents function as the supreme commander of the armed forces.
It is indeed very similiar to the Tsar flag introduced in 1693, which suggests many things about Russia itself, but it is also official iconography. I guess he is saying "Putin something"?

"North Korea has started sending troops to fight with Russia in Ukraine, South Korea's spy agency has said..."
I find this somewhat surprising, and I don't know how useful North Korean soldiers are going to be if they have to fight alongside Russian soldiers because of the language barrier. They also don't have any real combat experience. Like the article says, they'll likely be used to defend Russian territory to prevent another Kursk situation occurring.

Ukraine declared war on North-Korea and Iran. China singed a partnership pact where they support Russian war in Ukraine and Russia will support China on Taiwan.
Here is hoping this wakes up some of the folks that think this is a localized conflict.

Do you have a source for that?
