i've been in quarantine for the last week for flu-like symptoms. i lost a lot of weight, feel tired most of the time, some shortness of breath here and there, occasional day/night sweats/chills, no fever.

The US just passed a gargantuan stimulus package, and Trump has changed his mitigation-focused recommendations to extend to the end of April. His advisors are expecting the peak in US cases to occur in around 2 weeks time.

They say this Easter would be the darkest one (expected peak) which is worrying. I hope they don't guess. ![]()

Then I go to wal mart and it has none of that. Employees are coughing (into their hands) while stocking, hand sanitizer and disinfecting wipes (that were around before this for carts and at the self-checkouts) are left empty, and cashiers have no PPE whatsoever, etc. The same thing is mirrored by people I saw. Some were very meticulous to observe and follow best practices, others were basically debating if licking the handrail on tiktok was worth the clout I'm glad the increased testing didn't reveal that WA is keeping up with New York's infections but I'm still concerned the bending of the curve will be well above our current capacity.

Weed shop are like that, some gas stations, most restaurants that don't have practical curbside options do too. That's one reason it was so bizarre to see a company with practically bottomless resources not do what I saw mom and pop shops do at minimum to mitigate facilitating spreading by staying open. Sick workers, lack of sanitary supplies, no PPE at all, no signage even noting their changed hours, let alone efforts to mitigate the spread. If it weren't for there being more empty shelves and more rotten produce than usual I wouldn't even know there was a pandemic going on while I was there. The people they have that are supposed to check receipts have just given up since they had no ppe and people kept coughing while handing them receipts (and most of them are 65+).

The people they have that are supposed to check receipts have just given up since they had no ppe and people kept coughing while handing them receipts (and most of them are 65+). Wal-mart has always treated their employees like shit though. It's entirely unsurprising. (I think even Amazon is doing better, though they have longer hours). I know Kroger's is doing better (of course, it still has a fairly strong union) based on the people I know who work there. My local wal-greens have been doing the best so far (they were the first to implement distance measuring in their lines and they started having their employees wipe down the touchpads after every purchase first). Kroger's also has someone wiping down the self-scan touch screens, though not as consistently at every location (it's a pretty boring job so it may have just been the person zoning out when I was at one of them). They've also mostly stopped stocking entirely during the day. A local grocery store is the strictest though, with a 25 person limit on people inside at the store, with someone standing at the entrance to ensure it. They also have a setup where the cashiers and the buyers have a small boxed area where only one can be in at a time.

It seems like the main point is that aerosole transmission is also possible during a certain time-frame after the virus has been released into the environment. Its stability on different surfaces is measured under experimental conditions (21 to 23°C and 40% relative humidity) and may differ significantly in other conditions. The RKI warns that any results yielded from such studies cannot currently be applied to calculate the risk of infection in the real world. + Show Spoiler + https://www.rki.de/SharedDocs/FAQ/NCOV2019/FAQ_Liste.html

It might have an effect on it, but definitly not like the flu.

The problem when treating viruses (or any other disease) isn't killing the viruses, it is killing the virus while keeping the host alive. Killing viruses (or anything else) is easy. Basically nothing survives high intensity ionizing radiation or really aggressive chemicals. But that stuff also kills humans.

Not sure what to think of it, it sound good but I imagine a lot of their employee are not to happy to eventually lose one day of paid work, if they augmented the salaries I'd be happy with the measure.

Staff is proportional to open hours if you cut down on the hours some of the employee will maybe work less hours, I wouldn't mind having all store closed on sunday in general.

The emergency supplies were due to arrive in Milan, the capital of Italy’s severely hit Lombardy region, after being transported by road from the Czech Republic. The delivery follows the despatch by the Czechs of a similar cargo of 10,000 protective suits and 90 respirators to Spain last night. https://www.standard.co.uk/news/health/italy-and-spain-trigger-emergency-nato-plan-to-boost-medical-kit-a4401591.html Fuck yeah, I am glad that the government didn't start thinking about denying this request(As they tried with the one from China in Februrary(I think)). It may not be much but I am glad they decided to help.
