We're not quite on our way down from this, but the curve was flattened from what I can see in my province. The active caseload is steady, and even though total cases is still growing pretty linearly, it's well constrained.
I'm hoping that's good news for me, being able to resume some activities by the end of April.

With regards to the mask rule being implemented here, a few more details:
-Almost literally came in force for yesterday - one day (Sunday) people are being fed that masks don't help, around 4PM Sunday there's an order saying "wear masks in all public places". The definition of "protective masks" is still missing - is a scarf OK? So far from today - supposedly it won't be enforced 'till Saturday, and... a scarf "may be" ok, whatever that's supposed to mean...
-Fine is 5000 levas (~2500eur - pegged to the Euro at ~1.956). Same fine for being in parks (forbidden even if you're alone, only allowed if you're taking the dog out for a walk), same for breaking travel restrictions (quarantine between district centers - must have "valid reason" for travel, checkpoints), same for gatherings of more than 2, same for breaking social distancing... Just about nobody is getting fined, and people weren't exactly compliant the past few sunny days

Yep, our health minister is truly retarded because literally WHO said again that masks aren't recommended. Link: https://edition.cnn.com/2020/03/30/world/coronavirus-who-masks-recommendation-trnd/index.html

VA finally going on lockdown, gatherings of 10+ people are punishable as a class 1 misdemeanor and youre supposed to stay at home except for essential stuff like working or grocery shopping.
People here have been saying its because this past weekend saw crowded beaches and the Governor decided that he was tired of that shit and decided to start taking this more seriously.
It will be in effect til June 10th, so its a pretty serious, length stay given what I've seen the typical American attitude to the virus to be, so I'm at least glad we EVENTUALLY got serious about it, even if I'd really have preferred they'd gotten serious before people crowded onto beaches over the weekend.
Im going to miss my late night Walmart runs though, I doubt Walmart is going to shift from its early 8:30PM closings before the lockdown runs its course.

Sorry, what?
Masks or a mouth/nose barrier of any kind stops viral shedding - well, at least reduces it significantly. Combine that with the asymptomatic/presymptomatic(for days, weeks) carriers. I wasn't criticizing the decision, I was mentioning the lack of care displayed by the general public here, the practically unenforceable punishments and some questionable measures.

my city plus some adjacent zones(communes) were put in full quarantine; the reasoning was that we're a covid hot spot and that people are stupid(not respecting distancing and/or other quarantine forms).
the fact that out municipal hospital has the most infected medics and the most covid related deaths helped too. stupid fuckers(medics) took no protection measures against covid from the beginning going "what covid?, it's just a flu"; then, when they started dropping like flies(getting sick) they started stealing supply(disinfectants, masks and screwed with the testing(prioritizing their families/acquaintances)) while infecting hospital patients.
there are some investigations going on now but fuck knows what those will bring to light.

"In the community, we do not recommend the use of wearing masks unless you yourself are sick and as a measure to prevent onward spread from you if you are ill," Van Kerkhove said.
Maybe I am retarded as well, but I thought the biggest issue of corona is 1) not enough testing capacities(aka you don't know you're sick) 2) you're spreading the infection BEFORE you have the symptoms
it would be nice to explain this to stupid common people because right now this seems like a wrong decision. I believe there's a great scientific reason, but it's nowhere mentioned and to me this seems like a bad decision.

I think they downplay the importance of masks in Belgium (and probably other places in Europe) because there's a big shortage of them and they want all available masks to go to medical personnel.
If there were millions of masks to spare, I'm sure the experts would be saying that masks help, as is the case in Asia.
It's a bit silly tbh. Same expert says 'masks don't help' and 'our doctors and nurses URGENTLY NEED MASKS' in the same speech. Umm, okay. I mean it doesn't take a genius to see that doctors and nurses need them more, but that doesn't mean you have to lie to the rest of the population and claim they are useless.

Meanwhile in Sweden life continues mostly as normal with nightclubs, bars and restaurants still open. Https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-52076293
Good to see not all nations in Europe have lost their mind over this.

So no science, just the urge to protect medicine workers, OK.
OTOH, if this had been on the news I guess more people would have stayed at home

We have a dictatorship in the EU, because of the pandemic. Hungarian parliament abandondend the constitutional state for the time being. Orban is in total control.
I'm quite sure the EU will change a lot, or might not survive this. I think a restart with less countries and new rules would be a good thing.
First city in Germany (Jena) is making masks mandatory in public places in a couple of days.

Depending on what your sources are you might have a different take on it (taken from glorious r/Republican. I do not endorse this view but it might be insightful to read what people from "the other side" think of it).
Personal note: My city decided they now is a great time to upgrade infrastructure and is digging up my street at 8:30am with the concrete dumpster being right in front of my window Can hardly sleep at the moment so this hit me pretty hard.

Yeah I completely don't understand Hungary, is there anyone here that can give a good explanation of why Parliament needed to be completely sidelined? No other country seems to have felt the need to even come close to doing this.

My guess would be that it is because Orban is an authoritarian who loves using this crisis to push through some of his agenda? Also, the classic authoritarian "We need a big strong man in control" thing.

Unless you're taking the dog out for a walk, no, you can't. Same for the mountain near the capital.
They just pulled the mandatory face masks thing due to "public pressure", now it's "recommended". They did say that the face mask measures were to avoid other, heavier ones, so guess we're back to the "SMS when you go out" proposal(edit: like Greece). Great.
Edit:
If anybody is curious, not quite live (media outlets report orders before they're put up there), but it's the official source: http://www.mh.government.bg/bg/informaciya-za-grazhdani/informaciya-otnosno-noviya-koronavirus-2019-ncov/ Orders are scanned documents, so you'll need OCR to translate that.

Yep, confirmed. He's withdrawn his order, so masks aren't mandatory anymore. What a clown. If WHO (World Health Organisation) says masks aren't necessary for healthy people, that has to mean something.
However, masks will probably make little difference if you’re just walking around town or taking a bus so there is no need to bulk-buy a huge supply.
Source: The Guardian
They say it's necessary if you have contact with an infected person, but why make masks mandatory in all cases? It's insane. There have to be more specific conditions.

Macron who is speaking about unity and now national sovereignity, what a joke, all his policies since 2017 have reduced it and the massive penuries are not an excuse, there are the results of the relocation and externalisation. The coronavirus crisis doesn't erase magically the political tensions; it's quite the contrary actually.

I'll answer with this, thought it was clear:

tl:dr - wear a mask, any mask, to protect others. That + social distancing + hand hygiene + common sense... seems like a winning formula. Problem is, everybody needs to be doing it.
There is this:

Pretty much on point. The general public can use fabric masks/scarfs/whatever else is available, though.
