Currently self quarantining/not leaving the house. Over the last three days I've had discomfort in my lungs, shortness of breath, and a sore throat with a dry cough. I can quite literally feel something pulling or tearing or stressing my lungs though which isn't a pleasant feeling. I've been told by regular people that if I attempted to get tested I'd be turned away unless I were in a critical condition though. Personally I feel a constant discomfort in the lungs to be serious but I understand others are in ICU and need oxygen so for now I'll just attempt to call telehealth and see what they suggest. (Been on hold for an hour now though). They added 1600 new lines but it's still an insanely long wait time.
Shelves here are still somewhat full but certain items go out of stock fast though and supermarkets are limiting purchases to 1-2 per person depending on the item. They are replenishing the stock from time to time so the supply chains haven't been cut or anything like that yet. Chicken breast is wiped out. Of course, toilet paper goes pretty quick. Funnily enough beef is so expensive in Canada it remains on the shelves even despite this current pandemic.

Guys, I'm in Canada and our situation isn't as dire but we've got nowhere to go but up. Kinda depressing with the US blowing up. Anyways, can someone answer me this question that's driving me CRAZY?
We have strict COVID-19 testing criteria: 1) Travel overseas (started off with at-risk countries but it might be anywhere now) 2) COVID-19 symptoms 3) Contact with someone with COVID-19 (these may differ slightly based on province)
When a journalist asks one of our public health reps about the testing criteria, they list the above and the reason why we're not testing more broadly? Because we have no evidence of community spread. How can you obtain evidence of community spread when your testing criteria ensures you will never directly get evidence of community spread?!!?!?!?
Not one journalist that I've heard has asked the obvious question of how you can prevent community spread effectively if you don't test for community spread. Yes, we are starting to see community spread so they are catching them somehow but it's definitely not through direct testing [of walk-ins] and so we are not pro-active in trying to nip this in the bud (like in Nova Scotia where there hasn't been that many cases so far but rising). Why are these questions not being asked or addressed?

Here in Ohio, US, folks were heralding the drive through testing that was opened yesterday, only to find out today that test results may take up to 8 days.

In Canada our testing criteria seems unnecessarily stringent. The 'have you been out of the country' in the last 14 days one seems ridiculous considering the number of people we've had fly into our country during this time. If it's to get the most likely cases first with their limited supply of test kits it's understandable. Even if it takes 8 days it would be nice to have drive through testing here.

Still only 2 confirmed cases here in Saskatoon, although there's an estimate of around 15-20 non-diagnosed cases by experts (could be less, could be more, who knows really). Things are surprisingly scarce at stores right now considering how the situation isn't terrible here yet. I guess people are just getting stocked up in case, although I personally feel that we won't get too bad here considering we're not really a major travel zone. Hoping no idiots come and fuck that up

We are also running short. The thing is, they've only recently confirmed that we're running short of kits and swabs, and citing this as one of the reasons why we don't test broadly. As well as, 'hey, it makes no difference anyways since you should be isolating yourself either way with any kind of flu-like symptoms'. Meanwhile, in the beginning (when I suspect they also knew they will be short on kits) they ONLY cited the 'no evidence of community spread' as the reason for not testing broadly.
I just want them to be transparent and level with us. Is that too much to ask? And these journalists are kinda useless when they don't ask these questions. Sigh... it's just so frustrating.

Oh yeah, to clarify, the drive through testing here isn’t at will and they’re only giving them out to folks who meet similarly stringent criteria. I think that’s to cover for how few tests can actually be done.

Last I heard, Ottawa had it but by appointment only (and if you meet the criteria). I think they also ran out of kits early so shut it down?
Hope you feel better soon.

Question: Does anyone here use a camera while WFH? It seems insane. A friend of mine was asking about getting a webcam and I can't imagine people asking for me to be on camera while on a work call. That sounds like some straight trash work culture IMO. I would be like "uh, mine isn't working, ain't happening" and disable it in device manager or something.
Also, now that we have a lot more data out of Italy, can we finally say with 100% certainty that China has been fabricating their data? At the very least, their death rates?

I use it, it's not that big of a deal. I mean, if you choose not to it's not a big deal either. I think people that force you to have the camera on have issues with micro managing.

Same. But seeing as I've had a line of 5 symptoms in a row and my lungs feel awful I'm not thrilled. On websites they tell you to call Telehealth however it's over a 1 hour hold time. Currently 1.5 hours of hold and haven't gotten through to talk to anyone yet.

I like being able to see the people I'm talking to. Makes it easier when there are more than 3 people in a meeting to keep track of what's being said if you can see who's talking and their expressions. I dunno why you'd consider that trash work culture.
When it's just me and another person it's uncessary though.

I appreciate you sharing your story. Certainly adds to the idea that everyone should truly just isolate as much as possible. As I understand, you are in your early 30s.

Wow, that's the first time our mainstream public media (france 2) is showing so much critical reactions against the gov. For almost 10 min, we saw nurses, doctors who are desperately asking for masks, basically every medical staff is asking for it. Every answers to each interview were extremely harshs, they're considering the lack of masks and overall means and disaster and are accusing the governement for it.
However, a partial selection of patients has already began in the East when the military hospital which have been announced will only be operational the 27 march (with only 30 beds, China in the same timelapse built a structure with 1000 beds, weird, according to some posters, our plutocraties were so much better)
Construction workers want to exercise their right to withdraw because they can't respect the one meter separation and the minister calls them uncivil.
The former health minister (or secretary, whatever), Agnes Buzyn who left the governement the 17 february in order to participe to the municipale elections of Paris called the non annulation of the municipal elections of the 15 march a masquerade, she looked quite devasted.
Finally, the governement is praising all the medical staff while during their 20 last years, they reduced both their numbers and salaries.
What a mess but everything is China's fault ofc, they must pay for this. (they just gave us 1m masks btw)

At the very least, their death rates? literally everyone at digital work calls uses a webcam (buildin p much every laptop), I don't see the big deal with it? Its kind of nice to see people, talk to them and joke around a bit in meetings and stuff. I like it more then looking at a black screen that says a name on it.
Trash work culture is a tad extreme, so I wonder why you have such a big issue with it?

To be clear, they gave 1m masks for the pandemic they tried to cover up, which drastically increased the total # of infected people world-wide.

35. Have enough healthy food to last me a month because I actually always buy in bulk in general. 0 There is still the chance I may not have it. However I haven't felt lung discomfort almost ever in my life except for 2 times and both times I was deathly ill and bedridden. So while I can still breath and function mostly normally, lung discomfort is very unnatural so I think it's important to get tested because that means it's been floating around in the community.

Yeah the symptoms you are describing are certainly unique and fit Corona quite well. The fact that you describe previous lung issues gives me a slight peace of mind hoping your case won't be common. Not to say I am not sympathetic, but I am sure you agree it would be bad if your experience were common among young people.
You've been a familiar name to me for like 15+ years, so know that you are in my thoughts and I am cheering for you! Testie hwaiting!
