“The president uses social media to make the point. You can argue he’s probably the most effective person who’s ever used social media for that,” Johnson said at a news conference Monday. “He is using satire to make a point. He is not calling for the murder of his political opponents.”
Johnson did not elaborate on what Trump’s point might have been.

Two things that these protest are missing are being on normal business day and lasting several weeks at least. Maybe match the government shutdown in length.
|
Can normal americans afford to stay away from work? Or are they already poor enough so that they - theoreticly - could protest, but wouldn't .. since they need that weekly pay?
I try to stay up to date on what the Admin does:
And it doesn't look good.
- One call from Putin, and Ukraine is, again, asked to just give up. - Random Boats get bombed by US military - Shut Down ongoing - ICE and Ballrooms not affected - Argentina bailout with ties to Investors/Businesspartners of Trump and Besset - Epstein files lingering ... Prince Andrew lost the game of chicken - Pardons for Fascists... DOJ on the hunt for "Trump enemies" - New Tariffs?!! - No new "Deals".

If they can't afford to protest, then I suppose they can afford fascism.

I don't think its unreasonable to say there is a decently sized group of Americans who cannot afford to protest/strike.

Important point: They cannot afford to do so individually. They can afford to as a group. Individuals can never afford to fight against corporations, but a large group of workers together can.

It’s kind of depressing that the White House’s Press Secretary’s Tweets could conceivably come from basically any random MAGA fan
If only it were merely embarrassing, which it certainly is. But it’s a rather insidious and sinister culture that’s come in.
It’s also basically impossible to tell who’s an idiot, and who is merely speaking their language these days.
What boggles my mind is how it’s seemingly impossible for many on the conservative side of the aisle to go like, ‘I’m still a Republican/conservative but this lot are bloody clowns’ or something in that vein. Or even some criticism, qualified with ‘I liked x y and z’ or whatever.
Trump Derangement Syndrome does exist, but IMO should be reappropriated to refer to people who are seemingly pathologically bound to defend everything he/his administration do.

Everyone is stupid, also, there is no truth and the enemy is weak and strong at the same time.
Just fascism 101.
I don't know who it was, maybe George Carlin, who explained it the best why does America have the healthcare system and the homeless "problem" that never seems to go away. Because ordinary citizens need to be reminded on a daily basis that if they think of stepping out of the line they are one medical emergency away from being kicked out on the street.
Now, Trump and his merry band of fascists has added another layer to that, troops in cities and goons kidnapping people, no need for warrants, miranda rights or anything else, they spit we hit, soon it will be they throw we shoot.
As always, I hope I'm way off here but it seems like this shit is going into a very dark direction, the one the biggest cynics have been warning about for decades, in the form of weirdest and shittiest political movement imaginable, led by a demented rapist pedophile clown posting AI videos of him shitting on his people from above while half the country cheers for it and he sits around his 40 % approval rating no matter what.

You have too many of you to fire potentially, you might have a union with some funds to enable people to strike without ending up destitute.
Less so in terms of a more general protest. You might have say, 10 people from 10 different jobs sauntering off to protest, and them all facing censure as individuals.
You can somewhat combine the two of course, where a large cohort from a particular company or industry all go to protest as part of a more general collective, and they might have some safety in numbers.

Paul Ingrassia, Trump’s nominee to lead the Office of Special Counsel (the agency in charge of protecting federal whistleblowers from retaliation, among other things), texted that the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday should be “tossed into the seventh circle of hell” and said he has “a Nazi streak”: https://www.politico.com/news/2025/10/20/paul-ingrassia-racist-text-messages-nazi-00613608
Now before we jump to judging him, the man is only 30 years old, basically a child, far too young to be held responsible for the stupid things he says on the Internet, according to JD Vance.

Thats why you use austerity against people. Economic pressure ups the cost of showing solidarity.

Yes that is exactly what is going on.They need everyone who is already anti Trump to be as mad and angry as possible.
The democrats play into this perfectly by focussing on exactly those "dumb" (emotionally driven) things that rile up the leftwing of the democrats the most. Not entirely sure how this works from a pr pov but i guess its a strategy to keep the centre from drifting left. By creating this image of mad and angry opposition that most centrists dont realy want to be a part of at least not yet. Maybe its also partially a distraction. To keep focus away from other subjects and changes.

Trump Said to Demand Justice Dept. Pay Him $230 Million for Past Cases@NYTimes
President Trump is demanding that the Justice Department pay him about $230 million in compensation for the federal investigations into him, according to people familiar with the matter, who added that any settlement might ultimately be approved by senior department officials who defended him or those in his orbit.
The situation has no parallel in American history, as Mr. Trump, a presidential candidate, was pursued by federal law enforcement and eventually won the election, taking over the very government that must now review his claims. It is also the starkest example yet of potential ethical conflicts created by installing the president’s former lawyers atop the Justice Department.
Mr. Trump submitted complaints through an administrative claim process that often is the precursor to lawsuits. The first claim, lodged in late 2023, seeks damages for a number of purported violations of his rights, including the F.B.I. and special counsel investigation into Russian election tampering and possible connections to the 2016 Trump campaign, according to people familiar with the matter. They spoke on the condition of anonymity because the claim has not been made public.
The second complaint, filed in the summer of 2024, accuses the F.B.I. of violating Mr. Trump’s privacy by searching Mar-a-Lago, his club and residence in Florida, in 2022 for classified documents. It also accuses the Justice Department of malicious prosecution in charging him with mishandling sensitive records after he left office.
Lawyers said the nature of the claims posed undeniable ethics challenges.
“What a travesty,” said Bennett L. Gershman, an ethics professor at Pace University. “The ethical conflict is just so basic and fundamental, you don’t need a law professor to explain it.”
He added: “And then to have people in the Justice Department decide whether his claim should be successful or not, and these are the people who serve him deciding whether he wins or loses. It’s bizarre and almost too outlandish to believe.”
Even the president seemed to acknowledge that point in the Oval Office last week, when he alluded vaguely to the situation while standing next to the F.B.I. director, Kash Patel, Attorney General Pam Bondi, and her deputy, Todd Blanche. According to Justice Department regulations, the deputy attorney general — in this case, Mr. Blanche — is one of two people eligible to sign off on such a settlement.
“I have a lawsuit that was doing very well, and when I became president, I said, I’m sort of suing myself. I don’t know, how do you settle the lawsuit, I’ll say give me X dollars, and I don’t know what to do with the lawsuit,” Mr. Trump said, adding: “It sort of looks bad, I’m suing myself, right? So I don’t know. But that was a lawsuit that was very strong, very powerful.”
god damn halleluja. the gall, entitlement and frankly chutzpah is off the charts.
but you do you King, voters are 100% into this I feel like.

This has all been zero shame, maximum corrupt grift right from the start. I mean, yeah, this is another absurdly unethical one, but we already have at least a dozen of those.
