Are you aware of what happened in Israel the last two ish days? Are you aware that a bunch of European and American civilians, who were so obviously not military targets in any way, were murdered, raped, and kidnapped? Are you aware that HAMAS killed or murdered almost every single person at the desert music festival promoting Israeli Palestinian PEACE?

Of course, you are aware of all these things, you just think that the mass murder of everyone in Israel (sorry, 99% of Israel) is fundamentally a justified act. That is sick.

Yeah, nobody is saying that Hamas should be put in charge of Israel. I don’t think anyone even thinks Hamas should be in charge of Gaza. But great straw man. You sure showed that scarecrow who was boss.

Are you aware of the droid attack on the Wookiees? Of course you are! You just think that the Empire did nothing wrong! That is sick. You are personally responsible for Alderaan you depraved fuck.

Tlaib's post is unacceptable for me. Strangely, I am giving her a pass though. I legitimately think either her or her press team read a brief summary of what happened rather than the specifics of the videos of really, really, really bad stuff.

With knowledge of what happened, even the most edgy of edge lords would hesitate and ultimately not post that. Hamas is actively posting videos of the particularly evil things they did and glorifying it. Very, very, very bad things.

With knowledge of these EXTREMELY ABNORMAL details of the attack, it is totally impossible to post anything about the topic without mentioning Hamas is evil. It is way beyond the limits of whataboutism and stuff like that and I think most people who are saying things like Tlaib said are just assuming its the same as the last 50 times similar things have happened. Its kind of a funny situation because it shows how many of these people just post certain things by reflex.

So its a strange situation for me because this is totally disqualifying for me with all the facts in front of me, but I really do think this was an error so I don't mind it.

It’s a bad omission, even as someone sympathetic to the wider Palestinian cause, we saw (or in my case merely read, thankfully) barbarism that goes beyond the pale, beyond mere necessary violence for a political aim and into visceral sadistic hatred. One should be able to condemn that surely while simultaneously holding a general position that the state of affairs in Palestine is a humanitarian crime?

On the flip side I mean how much of the US legislature is even mildly critical of Israel?

Rashida Tlaib's statement looks solid to me. She could've fixated on latest tree and missed the forest, but instead she took an appropriately broad view. Isn't that her job?

USians aren't okay. Pro-Israel protesters in NYC are just straight up calling for genocide.

Reading people anonymously post stuff like is one thing, seeing New Yorkers take to the streets and unabashedly call for the genocide of Palestinians is horrifying.

The topic of US debt levels sometimes pops up so I thought some of you might find the following article interesting. They estimate the debt to GDP ratio at which the government will default and explain some of the mechanisms behind it. The key points are:

The U.S. “public debt outstanding” of $33.2 trillion often cited by media is largely misleading, as it includes $6.8 trillion that the federal government “owes itself” due to trust fund and other accounting. The economics profession has long focused on “debt held by the public”, currently equal to about 98 percent of GDP at $26.3 trillion, for assessing its effects on the economy.

We estimate that the U.S. debt held by the public cannot exceed about 200 percent of GDP even under today’s generally favorable market conditions. Larger ratios in countries like Japan, for example, are not relevant for the United States, because Japan has a much larger household saving rate, which more-than absorbs the larger government debt.

Under current policy, the United States has about 20 years for corrective action after which no amount of future tax increases or spending cuts could avoid the government defaulting on its debt whether explicitly or implicitly (i.e., debt monetization producing significant inflation). Unlike technical defaults where payments are merely delayed, this default would be much larger and would reverberate across the U.S. and world economies.

This time frame is the “best case” scenario for the United States, under markets conditions where participants believe that corrective fiscal actions will happen ahead of time. If, instead, they started to believe otherwise, debt dynamics would make the time window for corrective action even shorter

The rest is found here:

Especially those detached from the actual reality of any given situation.

It’s still rather chilling, as much as no it’s not hugely surprising.

sitting member of congress Andy Bigg's(R-Congress) talks talks to Judge Napolitano(former fox host/contributor). They touch on the speaker race, Israel/Palestine and war funding for Ukraine.

to give a tldr for those who wont watch because its an R and a former fox host. He, Andy Biggs(R) is obviously standing with Israel, Israel has not asked for any commitment for troops from the USA , Let Israel handle their own business is the sense. Steve Scalise is beating Jim Jordan in internal counting in the GOP speaker race, Something like 115 to 95ish I dont remember exact numbers. War funding he says for ukraine will pass the amount is up for debate but he expects at least 25 bill will pass the house.

Can they bring a funding bill for Ukraine without a speaker? I thought the only vote allowed in the House is for who will be the next speaker?

They have an acting speaker, who in theory has the same powers as a real speaker, but that is murky.

Steve Scalise is out for speaker

My god this is historic. I think we've got even odds now that we get a Democrat backed moderate GOP speaker. I remember when I was young Republicans were seen as the party of unity and dems were the infighting anarchists. Now we've got twice in one year when people have had to be restrained in Congress before possibly punches being thrown.

Nancy mace wore a scarlet letter A on her shirt to the candidate's forum. I don't even know where to start on that but wow republicans just don't read I guess.

That is surprising considering he was winning inside the party at least according to Biggs. I've heard that the Mcarthy-ites were pushing for scalise and that their major concerns was funding during elections because Scalise was closer to Mcarthy and you can say what you want about Mcarthy he is really good at fundraising. I suppose this means Jim Jordan is the front runner unless as you say some Dems decide to cross the aisle with the never Trumpers/Mcarthy-ites. But It makes you wonder if it wouldn't have just been better to keep Mcarthy in that case. If you wanted to deal a bigger blow to the populist/trump side of the GoP to me it looks like Propping up Mcarthy and shutting them down then and there would have been better. Hard to say.

These continuing delays are making it more difficult to prevent a shutdown when the CR expires a few days before thanksgiving. That would be an interesting time for a shutdown.

I've already put in for leave for 2 days before the shutdown, through thanksgiving! (Who knows, maybe they'll actually pass another CR by then).

He apparently won the internal vote 113-99 orso but that really doesn't mean anything. They need a near unanimous candidate to be able to actually elect them as speaker.

If the democrats entice 5 moderate republicans to vote for a democratic speaker, could they do it? or could the acting speaker just block that vote indefinitely?

The trick is to not shout it off the rooftops but to just have a vote.

I think Gaetz is going to organize an effort to vote for Omar as speaker. Its the only thing that makes sense in this timeline.
