The trick is to not shout it off the rooftops but to just have a vote.

You've got to wait until the GOP actualy brings a nomination vote to the floor and then make your move. Otherwise we're in perpetual limbo where the gop will refuse to seat a speaker until they get the votes they can to win the vote.

www.cnn.com

I don't know how much stock we should put into secret votes and backroom dealing but They had another vote today to nominate a possible speaker, Jim jordan won ofc beacuse he was the other option in the last vote. But CNN is reporting that they did another secret vote just after asking "If we're on the floor are you voteing to nominate me?" And he lost 50 GOP members, he can only lose 4. Hes got a longer road then the guy who bailed after a day of this nonsense. And on the nonsense train we've got a GOP member of the house wearing an IDF uniform to these votes.

Alright we've got speaker vote coming in now with the nom speeches first. Pretty bizzare to mention wrestling mat and jordan considering his protection of molesters but thats modern GOP for you. Same standard GOP hysterics though.

Rumors are that they're willing to go through a few votes and force moderates to come over like McCarthy was "successful" at doing previously in the year.

They got Aguilar to do the nom speech again for Jeffries. They're doing a "he said no" refrain to loop everything togeather that worked partially but they really could have pushed it further.

I will update on this post to prevent spam don't worry.

The magic number is 3 republican votes jordan can lose voteing for someone that isn't him for him to win the seat.

One for mccarthy from bacon
I missed the second other vote.
Some republican has voted for Zelton in new york (he was hte guy who the guy who voted replaced in the house)
Someone else has voted for Scalise Its super done at this point the first vote fails.

So what are we guessing will the vote count needed to get a new speaker? over or under on 15 voting rounds.

I think way under the Votes with Mccarthy were a death march beacuse the only things functional that could happen was to vote for a speaker or to vote to adjurn. Rumors was that Jordan would go multiple votes to pressure people but the same way it could get a lot worse before it could get better.

CNN reporting from a source that the jordan camp's first reaction was "this was much worse than expected."

We are now in a recess who knows whats next Jordan is now a vote behind the worst McCarthy ever was.

No vote until tomarrow morning. Jordan will have another vote and a 4 vote margin before loseing.

I think number of days is more relevant than number of rounds. If the GOP just decides to not hold another vote until they have worked things out internally, that's low voting rounds even if it takes them three weeks to manage it.

The fact that many of the more childish republicans would feel 0 hesitation to just let the government shut down from not having a speaker complicates things. A large number of republican congressman only want a "burn it all down" speaker. Having no speaker at all is perhaps even better situation for those morons.

There are 46 Republicans who are a member of the Freedom Caucus. Not all of them want to burn things down.
The problem is there are enough of them to deny the rest of the Republicans a majority, but that's not a large number.

I agree, for those who want a shutdown (a very small group) having no speaker is perfect because its literally impossible to slide through a last minute CR without one.

But considering it just takes 6(?) Republicans siding with Democrats, either to elect a Republican who the Democrats trust or a Dem speaker, I would hope that if we get close to that in November there are enough sane Republicans who would break party lines to 'save the country'.

4 republicans to vote with democrats or 8 to vote present instead of for a candidate (depending on who is still there or is now there.)

CNN dropping screenshots of texts congressmen and their wives are receiving over threats about their vote. Reporting that staffers don't answer the phone to their ear anymore beacuse of the constant yelling coming through. Dawg thats not how to convince people.

We're onto the nom speeches. Maybe referencing college athletics with jordan is a mistake but thats just me. They didn't have the seats behind the nominator filled when he was first speaking. This is a very slow and low energy speech I hope it ends soon.

Aguilar up now. "no amount of election denial can change those numbers" was a real zinger when talking about the votes yesterday and how jefferies got more. calling the shot that jordan won't be the next republican nom if this vote fails. Saying how the other guy mentioned aid for Isreal but failed to mention aid to Ukraine. hitting that they have to keep the government functioning. A lot shorter a lot more energy speech.

Now we see votes. Already one for Mccarthy the magic number is 4 persumably.
Big hubhub someone voted for someone else We've got a vote for emmer We're at 3 non Jordan votes already.

Its happened a second vote for Mccarthy means jordan will not be speaker. My god

14 gop votes against jordan and things are quickly turning into a farce.

We're at 20 gop votes against we'll see now if hes lost votes from yesterday soon. We're at 21 now wow historical embaressment now. Worse than McCarthy's death march?

Well this is fun:

Opponents of Jim Jordan’s speakership have been deploying a strategy aimed at pressuring the Ohio Republican to drop out of the race: purposely staggering their “no” votes across multiple ballots.

One Republican who has voted for Jordan on the first two ballots said a group of them have been planning to peel off gradually in an attempt to show building opposition to his speakership, and “basically drew straws” over who would vote for Jordan initially but then vote against him in subsequent ballots.

Jordan lost four Republicans on the second ballot, and the member said more would follow suit if there is another vote.

There's a decent chance Jordan's vote numbers will continue to drop over time... so the number of voting calls is only going up from here.

A natural consequence of being a bully who has never offered a bill that was signed into law. He’s objectively a terrible candidate for Speaker, and yet here we are.

And now Republicans want to avoid the problem all together by just empowering the temp speaker to keep the House functioning so they can just never resolve the speaker 'problem'.

We sort of saw the same during Trump with acting heads of departments all over the place and no attempt even made to confirm actual permanent replacements.

Can't they just vote for McHenry then, like, the old-fashioned way?

You would think that, but apparently thats not what they are doing Oo.

I imagine there are enough crazies who want to eek out concessions that they won't vote for McHenry, and won't vote for this either (because then their bargaining position is gone) so Republicans are hoping the Democrats bail them out and settle for a temp Republican speaker??

I don't know.
