If these questions were asked to you, would you feel comfortable answering them? I'm not sure it would be completely safe in the US given what some members in the government think and are willing to do. Thoughts? I would be concerned if I wasn't cis. Hell, during the mid terms this week we were asked if we wanted to make discrimination due to race legal or not at the state level - because I'm sure somebody out there read the room and decided "Yeah, not sure this is safe long term federally."

I don't know about the US and Canada, but I believe in most countries censuses are confidential, so the government can't use that information against you.

At this point, they absolutely are. This is who they are, just some act upon being scumbags in their private lives while others just think it and make it a reality through politics.
I mean, Jason Miller (Trump senior adviser and chief spokesman of the Trump 2016 campaign), just lost his libel lawsuit against Gizmodo. What was the story? He got two women pregnant while his own wife was pregnant and snuck an abortifacient into the stripper's drink.
If there's anything that highlights that conservative ideas of pro-life and family first have a pretty sinister underbelly, this and the dozens of family first pro-life politicians having affairs, knocking the women up and desperately trying to give them abortions highlights who these people are best.

Pointless. Twitter and Facebook aren't headquartered there.

Would be hella funny if FB/Twitter simply block Florida users from using the site so they don't have any reason to comply. Not that the law is likely to survive an actual court battle in the first place.

This entire law is based on the willful misunderstanding that a lot of conservatives have where they think 1st amendment = freedom of consequences for speech.
Ironically, it's actually a first amendment violation in that it is forcing an association with individuals that the companies do not want to associate with (freedom of association is part of the 1st amendment).

Wow what utter bollocks.
What happened to private companies being free to decide who they do business with?
I do for the record think the sheer power ‘big tech’ have is problematic, but at least what mechanisms I’d propose don’t massively conflict with my other beliefs and principles.
Not that this element wasn’t a factor in forever but the modern conservative movement seems to almost exclusively be fuelled and cater to the sensibilities of mostly white blokes who want to do whatever they want, and that’s about it.
Of course those who do embody certain actual principles do also exist, it feels they aren’t particularly well served by current trends.

Word is that the Trump criminal probe has convened a grand jury, which means we very well may see charges against Trump, his children, and their businesses.

Pretty sure this is completely meaningless and unenforceable posturing lol.
