I assume it'd be the end of the campaign either way, but presumably someone living would need to be on the ballot to lose to Trump.

If Corona doesn't get under control he (and Democrats) might have legitimate cause in calling a state of emergency and suspending the election altogether. If millions of people literally can't vote without violating basic protocols around limiting the spread of the virus there could be an argument made that it is irresponsible to have them line up anyway.

Absolutely, anything can happen at the moment. I mean, we have on the table that one or both octogenarian candidates could die from a pandemic during the campaign. Even without that, at least one octogenarian candidate seems likely to forget his own name by the time he has to put it on a how to vote card. The other can at least read the letters slowly off his giant concrete penis in New York. Even with the world ending, I still think the Dems are toast if Biden has to pull out mid-campaign.

But thats the thing, the vote can't just be delayed by any kind of decree; one of the odd side effects of our strangely disconnected voting system is that the federal government can't really exert much power over voting operations themselves, so the states can and almost certainly will say whatever dude and hold a vote regardless. What follows from there is less clear, but it'd be much harder for him to hold on if a vote is actually held. There's also a very real possibility that Trump will no longer want to be president if and when the economy is in such shambles that his self-enrichment takes a hit, which is definitely a possibility. All the national financial cards are on the table here.

I just want him to get on stage at the convention, then in his speech accepting the nomination made a shocking announcement that his health is not good enough and he need to give it up to someone else, then step back from the stage with a huge black curtain slowly raising and Hillary stepping out of the shadow on live TV in front of all the party.

Might not be a convention either as a result of CV-19, particularly if Democrats listen to Clyburn and cancel the rest of the Primary.

Turn out CV-19 was a Clinton plot all along to eliminated the rest of the democratic field, probably developed in the basement of a Washington pizzeria. Also did Clyburn actually said they should cancel the rest of the primary? Wtf

I'll give Clinton credit for a lot of problems, but even I can't credit her with CV-19, maybe LL though ![]() But yeah, he sure did. I think when the night is over, Joe Biden will be the prohibitive favorite to win the Democratic nomination, and, quite frankly, if the night ends the way it has begun, I think it is time for us to shut this primary down, it is time for us to cancel the rest of these debates... thehill.com

It will be interesting to see if Sanders acknowledges the implausibility of victory in the primary after tonight. It will also be interesting how he handles his "only I can win in the Rust Belt," because while that might be the case he'll have to do some verbal gymnastics to get there he didn't have to do before. I can say anecdotally that staying in as long as he did in 2016 left a bad taste in my parents' mouths...and personally I think I might prefer him to donate his outstanding campaign funds to helping fight coronavirus/directly help people in some other way at the end of March, even though that would probably be highly illegal.

This and Biden saying he would veto m4a should dominate the debate imo, but probably wont get as much time as questions about Bernie dropping out and backing Biden or Bernie's online supporters.
